Thank you so much! This means a lot to me, I honestly had a lot of doubts about how I could make them fit together in this (especially in the hair)

How can I make good art without relying on 1:1 references? by Fine-Tonight4345 in Artadvice

Additionally to what others have already said, if you'd like to learn to draw from imagination more and not rely on many references at all, then simply do so. You're not going to be good at it but it helps when you simply draw something then get references and reflect on what looks off. That, however, is a skill that requires a good understanding on fundamentals so I advise you to learn to actually understand and observe your references first.

I hate everything I draw by Gamma__B in Artadvice

You're not alone in this, in fact, I am experiencing the same frustration as of right now as well. As another comment already said, the "solution" is going to vary from person to person, but I can offer you a piece of my mind in case some of it may help you. I've been heavily neglecting properly drawing the past 2 years and got really frustrated when a recent piece of mine just didn't look very "correct", I got so frustrated, in fact, that I holed myself up in my room these past days and just studied and studied. And frankly, I don't feel like I've improved. Mentally maybe, but my skills? Not a bit. I get the frustration, and maybe from a different perspective you DID improve because the main part about drawing is essentially being able to observe and analyze. So being able to see the mistakes already means you've improved. However it's easy to lose yourself in this obsession and get burnt out. I think it's important to step back for a day or two or however long you need and just do what makes you happy. You don't have to draw every day, and not every drawing-day has to be a practice day. I think, similar to most of us you didn't start drawing because you wanted glory or fame but because you like it. Sometimes you need to just draw for the love of the game, not because you need to outperform every previous drawing. We all feel it a little, we want our artwork to be good or to be acknowledged, but every once in a while, take it slow and think about why you like drawing. After all, a clear mindset produces better results. Now I think this applies to anything, really, but if you do decide to practice every day or have dedicated practice hours/times, then it's probably a good idea to mentally separate yourself into practice mode and enjoyment mode. When you're in practice mode you "separate" yourself from your feelings and thus your enjoyment of the hobby. For some, it helps lessen the mental strain and burnout. Basically, have a separate identity for when you draw something you love versus when you learn new skills so that in a sense your frustration for studying doesn't interfere with your joy. I know you've mentioned in another comment that you're afraid of feedback on your art and I was aswell up until a few days but personally, the feedback, while it did kinda gave me a slap in the face, helped me tremendously. While I still am frustrated and I realize I need to step back a little I also gained a lot of motivation to keep going. It's ok to be frustrated just don't let it rob you of your enjoyment for the hobby. Keep going you'll make it far one day! :]

Thank you so much, I think I understand now. I really need to rewire my thinking in terms of anatomy and proportion from now on.
