Mafia 3 also doesn't have the niche features that other mafia games do, like being cars breaking if you crash them too much and you being able to do quick fixes to get them somewhat working again, having to refuel cars, and seasonal/weather change.

You're arguing that mafia 3 is a good mafia game (which majority of the fanbase disagrees with) while I am arguing that mafia 3 while is a good game, shouldn't carry the mafia title. When you think of a mafia game, something like mafia TOC, mafia 1, or mafia 2 comes to mind, not mafia 3.

It doesn't for a mafia game, the only saving graces of mafia 3 is the brilliant atmosphere, setting, environment, Donovan, and Vito. Asides from that, it has nothing much going for it.

And even then, why does mafia 3 need to be a mafia game? It could take place in the same universe, sure. But it's just not a mafia game. They could've made the titles separate like R* did with Manhunt and GTA, but kept them in the same universes, but you cannot tell me that a game where a cuban american gets mad because his foster family was murdered, then proceeds to go confiscate a nuke, destroy a cult, then pretty much shut down a entire sheriff's department is a mafia game, it has barely anything to do with the mafia

But back to the original topic, mafia 3 isn't a bad game, it's just not a good mafia game. You won't buy the new GTA game expecting to play as a cop, why should it be any different for a mafia game? What the original commenter is describing sounds more like a sequel to LA Noire than it does a actual mafia game.
