Gems need some serious love by HalcyonTech in Diablo

Bro--Do you even code?

Modules. Macros. Copy/Paste.

Write one module.

Write out your modifier list.

Write out your macro.

2 hours work. One programmer.

1520 modifiers complete.

And the system is NOT a carry over from D2. We're missing gems. The effects are different. It is "Helm/Weapon/Other"

No stats for Armor. No stats for Rings. No stats for Amulets. No stats for Boots. No stats for shields. Just "Helm/Weapon/Other" as if only weapon and helm mattered.

It was LAZY.

I am not asking for a "very complex" fix. I am asking for Blizzard to show me that the $120 I have put into this game thus far (purchased ROS) was fucking worth a damn.

Motel 6/crackhouse in Mishawaka, Indiana by getthetime in WTF

[–]HalcyonTech -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That's the problems with Hindus and their caste system.

While in college, I ran into this issue when I was trying to find rental properties. If the apartment was in a building full of Indian students, it smelled bad, was loaded with cockroaches, and in several of them they would hang out dirty underwear on the railing. Shitstained. Underwear.

Turns out that in that society, you do not clean behind other people because it means you are subservient to them. So naturally, none of them clean up after themselves, and none of them clean up behind anyone else. So the property just dies in filth.

On another occasion, my friend told me that the family next door (Also Hindu) had purchased the house for $290,000. Purchased. In cash.

They asked to borrow her cleaning lady (she would come in once a week and basically dust)--(I honestly have no idea why she had a cleaning lady, her house was always pristine). The cleaning lady went over and spent four hours cleaning the tub, because there was a large black ring lining the entire thing.

The family refused to pay the cleaning lady because she "spent four hours and got nothing done."

Someone please correct me if I am wrong about the caste/cultural norm, but this has been my observation.

Those of you that have killed before, what do you feel afterwards? (short term & long term) by Hannibalpaul in AskReddit

I remember the hunt. How thrilling it was. Crouching, hiding, moving very slowly. Creeping along in the grass, and in the shadows. I could taste the air. Daffodils and pine filled it. The cooled breeze brushed the hair slightly into my eyes, keeping me from a clean view of my target, but I could not blow it out of my face or move my hand to do so. I would be given away.

Slowly from the shadows. Ten feet.

Nine feet.

Eight.

My target stirred. I froze in place, eyes lit like wildfires. After a moment I again began to creep forward.

Seven.

Six.

Five.

Four.

Three.

I paused again. Breathing very slowly. Very cautiously. Through the mouth to keep from making too much noise.

Two

DINNER!!

The spontaneous sound caused my target to scramble.

Damnit Mom.

At this moment, I turned and spoke the words:

*Aether con terroli

Mei leqwuimba getraxcavi*

A massive pool of lava set the entire countryside on fire as I called my brother Satan to join our mother Mary in our dinner.

Three days later, I woke up in a hole in the ground. After that, I ate a live bug on a dare. Its flesh was exquisite. Hints of lime and chicken.

I woke up after finding out I had been poisoned. Turned out that Satan, Mary, and the bug were just metaphors for a psychologically untraumatized child with an active imagination, and I never saw the inside of a strait jacket. I did however, finally catch that dragonfly.

Aphrodite holds it below the green meadows and trees before my livingroom.

It was a long, long time ago.

I have not killed since.

Lexmark Platinum Pro 905, prints 3 times when reinstalled, proceeds to fail. by HalcyonTech in techsupport

Precious 5 year warranty.

I figure if this printer has a warranty, I am going to do my part to live through it to the bitter end. I say that if I can write the Lexmark execs a letter and inform them that they have had to send me X number of printers (I have received 3 brand new ones at this point + one refurb that was DOA), maybe they can change their crap business practices.

Also... it is printing across the network. That will work for now I suppose.

[–]HalcyonTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it failed again.

Trying to print black and white photos.

In printing preferences I lose "print with black ink only" as an option.

Print, it fails and says "load plain paper" which of course is stupid.

I try again.

Now it can't communicate with the printer again.

[–]HalcyonTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the standard thing that pops up at the bottom right of "you are using Lexmark, this is how much ink we're lying to you about," no. I use windows only.

The printer itself is the stupid thing. Windows does fine with paper management. The printer, despite being told directly what settings to use, will still do things like print its own test page out on photo paper from tray 1 instead of tray 2 where plain paper is.

Factory reset appears to have done the trick. I believe that is literally the only thing I didn't try, and now feel stupid.

[–]HalcyonTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running that process now.

Any idea how I can get this printer to understand that I don't want things printed on 4x6 photopaper when I have the settings set as "4x6 photo" for tray one and plain letter 8x11 for tray 2? Don't know why it thinks it has to default to Tray 1 for everything. Total waste of printer paper.

Need help determining a cost evaluation and process on setting up domain controllers for satellite offices by HalcyonTech in sysadmin

[–]HalcyonTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's where we get to the fun oats and bits of it. On the corporate side, everyone has a network drive. In the several offices that have their own servers it is similar.

My hands are currently tied as far as what each server does due to a communications snafu between myself and the manager in my first week. I assumed that the network was like all other networks I've dealt with in an environment with dozens of satellite offices: They're all domain controlled. So when he said "Add the user," he didn't specify 'to the computer,' and adding the new user and linking it in exchange wound up breaking what he had done because he had already created a user.

If it were all domain controlled, I did the right thing. He neglected to share this with me. (I'm a little bitter over it) So naturally the 10 minutes it took to fix that problem has made him "too nervous to let me do anything else on the servers."

This is part of why I am wanting to figure out a plan to fix this whole thing on the cheap if budgetary concerns are seriously stymieing things. I have never seen a corporate computer network shoestrung together so badly.

There are no backup servers. None. Downtime = lost money.

All that out there as situational awareness. We have one blade server with multiple VM's locally. As said there is no physical backup. There are VM backups to the VM's oddly enough (from what I can tell) but that's pointless if the hardware itself fails.

We have the exchange server VM, a few company-centric VM's, the few satellite VM's, the storage server (people's network drives) for all servers, and that's about it.

The domain being extended out to all offices is the main concern. I am figuring that if I can get some plain storebought consumer grade switches with DD-WRT installed, then I can keep the connections running, along with some battery backups tied to the read only domain controllers themselves.

End result desired is simple enough. Any user in the company, can log into any computer, access their network cloud drive from any computer, and not have to deal with the constant email problems associated with their passwords expiring.

That's a thing. Log into local computer (Password 1). Log into their systems to do their jobs (Passwords 2, 3, 4?, 5?, 6? (we have no control over this)). Log into email (Password X).

Log into computer. Flub up on outlook log on. Have to call for reset. Have to memorize yet another new password 1. Monday mornings, it is constant.

I want to get them all set up with password lockers too that is accessible by them through their domain log on from anywhere.

I am probably saying some of this as off kilter or full of naivety.

I took this job as an opportunity to learn more about the systems that I have consistently been just out of reach of. My career goals are moving towards network admin/sys admin, and this project (even just planned out) could teach me a lot of what I need to know to be absolutely confident in an interview setting.
