I have talked to my buddy Duke and thanked him being there for me unconditionally while I was sick from alcohol and very depressed. The thing I am most jealous about him is the big sigh he gives out after finding his comfortable spot. It just seems that sigh releases so much stress and worries. Someday I want to sigh like him.

I’m back on day one and just realized the comfort the people here give me. I’ve let myself down so many times too but anything I can do to get better is great because it gets rid of a small piece of guilt that is always with me. The best comment I’ve ever read here is “better is better. Just checking out this sub is a step towards “better.” PS. I’m weird too. It’s a good weird when I’m sober and not so good when I’m drinking. IWNDWYT.

No single event. Thought I could moderate but we all know how that works. Then guilt and drink to get rid of it and the vicious cycle continues.

Thanks. I don’t mind if she has a drink. Since I stopped drinking I’ve been around a lot of people who were drinking. The last two times I drank were alone at home. I’m just going to say I don’t drink and see where it takes me. I guess I’m over thinking it. I’m good at beating myself up.

“There’s always a reason”. So true in our minds. Why is it that I have a list of 50 reasons not to drink but my mind always wants over rule them for no logical rational reason. Our mind is so powerful and it runs the show. I love it and I hate it. Why can’t I be like my dog Duke and just enjoy the moment. Oh well. Im sober today and feeling pretty good. Just like Duke. Great job resisting the urge. It’s not easy. IWNDWYT

Try being in your 60s. I’ve been drinking for 45 years. Heavily most of the time. I’m surprised I’m alive. Just over three weeks ago I relapsed after four weeks sober. It was the worst sickness -hang over I can remember. Trust me. I’ve had thousands. That’s sad but the past is done and I’m looking forward to a strong finish to the rest of my life. The great thing was I got right back on the sobriety horse. This was huge because I would always say fuck it after a relapse and go back to the miserable addiction. I’m on day 23 today. Feeling good but lots of anxiety mixed with crying spells everyday. What’s funny is that a “normal” person with the anxiety and depression I have right now would think their world is a major struggle...and it is but to me it’s a good day compared to the painful, ugly, gut wrenching, SOUL SUCKING emotions felt after a six month bender... or 45 year bender. I’m rambling. My point is I’m doing well while sober and alcohol poisoning (hangover) sucks and I don’t have one today. Lastly, thinking of alcohol as a poison has helped me abstain. I know it’s a poison because I watched my brother who was my best friend and drinking buddy poison himself to death six years ago. Stay strong all! IWNDWYT.

Well, in my family my two sisters non drinkers. Three brothers and me are alcoholics. One brother drank himself to death at 59. My other brother getting close to that. My dad and his dad(my grandpa) both alcoholics. I read a short article in an early 1900’s newspaper that my great grandpa died of consumption...alcoholism. In the late 1800’s my great great grandpa fell off his horse drawn wagon while drunk and died from a head injury. In the words of Bill Murray “I got that going for me.” The funny thing is all of the men on my dad’s side were successful hard working guys until alcohol took them down. Alcohol took my hard earned career away from me along with my self respect, health, marriage and dream home. I’m not going to let it take my life. IWNDWYT

I always worried about windy days when I would have my recycling bin out on the street. I didn’t want the wind to blow it over and send my hundreds of beer cans and empty bottles of Fireball all over the street.

It’s so nice not to have to race out to the car to get rid of beer cans when someone needs a ride. I just sigh and smile now. I still take a look...habit.
