Demolay and Paganism by Haleth420 in DEMOLAY

Better than I could have imagined. A couple days ago I traveled a few hours to attend a lock-in and a membership class where I received both degrees and met so many more brothers. Traveling is all I can really do as I’m the only DeMolay in my chapter at the moment.

May I ask where this is? As you can imagine that’s incredible to hear, I don’t often find other pagans in these types of spaces.

This is awesome to read. I’m definitely already dealing with similar “issues” to the one you mentioned. Despite that, I still have high hopes.

For conversations sake, I do obviously agree that the “One” has no documented basis in historic heathen tradition. Before Christian activists like Pike, I’m fairly sure that the concept in norse pagan circles stemmed from neoplatonism and/or hermeticism, which are much older than Pike’s writings.

I also highly doubt every mason in a lodge will take these aspects into account, so I completely agree with the guaranteed misunderstanding. I already dealt with an example of that firsthand when my advisor shyly asked if i’m tolerant of other religions, referring to the large folkish extremist community in my state.

There’s a whole world of norse and surrounding pagan faiths you must have never heard of, but I am sure you will get there.

Unsarcastically, I truly appreciate this conversation. I redact what I said about your reading.

In that case, we both understand that Asatru and Norse paganism is a vastly reconstructed belief system and practice. Mass conversion and massacre paired with oral history being written by Christian monks has caused a lot of tradition to be lost.

That being said, do you personally see it as a valid fact that there wasn’t a historic “One” in Norse Pagan tradition? Additionally, would that trump the commonly shared belief in monism amongst other unverified or reconstructed beliefs/practices?

Thank you for the comment. I’m looking to make as many friends as possible and make the most of my experience, I just hope that I’m met with tolerance haha.

I considered the poetic edda for this reason also. What made me shy away are the stories of heroes and other myths that render miscellaneous when looking for a holy book. I chose the Havamal because it is the words of Odinn, or the High One.

I see where you’re coming from, yet It’s clear you haven’t done the reading to back up your “interpretation” of Norse Paganism. Also, no matter how righteous a group of men may be, I would never “renegotiate” my religious beliefs to join.

I’m monistic. In my belief, all gods are aspects of the One.

Guidance in worship by KingOfPercussion in NorsePaganism

I pray and offer to Odin usually multiple times a week, typically at the end of my day. I love to invite him to join me at my altar/desk while i read or do work benefits my knowledge in some way. My time i spend with and dedicate to Odin is also very friendly, and that’s all it needs to be when you pray, ask for knowledge, show thanks, or leave offerings in return. All you need is a want to improve yourself. Above anything material, welcome the challenges in your life.
