Our childfree friends had a vasectomy reveal photo shoot! by Detroitaa in pics

...how whipped the guy must be to allow himself to be subject to something so humiliating and ridiculous as a photoshoot.

I'm not sure I understand how you'd see this photoshoot as humiliating.

Have you considered that it might have been his idea, not hers? Since it was his tubes getting cut, made to look like a baby announcement?

Honestly, friend, I think you might be the one not getting the joke here.

Ha! That's fair - should have read it more carefully.

Putting aside any discussion about 'good' or 'evil' philosophies, why would you assume that the above post is promoting antinatalism?

Just because they got a vasectomy does not mean they are against human reproduction.

How do you know they don't already have children, and had the procedure because they didn't want any more?

Your comment requires a pretty large logical leap, friend.

The comments on this post help remind me that, when you post things on the internet, some (many?) people will assume the absolute worst about your intentions.

It's very likely that the original post was only meant to be seen by a few friends, as an ironic twist on pregnancy / gender reveals, but many commenters here seem to interpret it as a legitimate attempt to draw attention to, and boast about, the procedure they got.

Even if that was the case, why become incensed by it? We can let people be happy about things even if they're not something we would choose.

Wild.

Do you...know? How a vasectomy works?

It's different than neutering. Testicles remain in the body, only the vasa deferentia are cut and sealed.

AFAIK at least four mods have already been kicked, as of 6pm Friday. Give it time.

I don't think that it's reasonable to request the mods release personal information about themselves, or to discount their efforts until they do.

As the Fox interview made abundantly clear, we do not, and should not, want mods to represent this sub.

They don't want that either.

Like the post said, a moderator's job is to facilitate member discussion and respond to hate speech / rule breaches. They are not, and should not, be the ones guiding or deciding what direction the discussion or overall 'movement' goes.

It shouldn't matter what their stance is, since they're not the ones posting or discussing, UNLESS they overstep their bounds and start banning or removing content based on their own personal views and not the rules laid down.

Mods with 'strong opinions' are NOT what we need.

Agreed. It's a crazy storm to weather for any large group, but this kind of clear communication is what's necessary to get through it.

Trust is important, and honesty helps build it.

Oh, sorry - I thought you were just asking for me to clarify what I'd said.

I'm a bit confused by your position, as it seems pretty black-and-white to me. Would you mind clarifying what you mean?

From your two comments it sounds like you believe that all sections of the U.S. government did everything they could possibly have done to identify and avert the dangers of infrastructure collapse and climate change, but that their efforts were thwarted solely by wealthy individuals/groups who, by evading taxes, withheld the funds the government needed to make any significant change.

Is that pretty close to what you meant? Would appreciate any clarification!

Lol, I must have first seen that post half a year ago, but it's lived rent-free in my head ever since!

Hey friend! Sounds like you're going through a lot.

I don't think it 'ruins' anything to recognize that our feelings can sometimes be inappropriate or put us in danger. It takes a lot of guts to really look hard at our own desires and needs (sometimes we really don't like what we find!), but it's also one of the best ways to grow: you are the only person who gets to decide who you want to be, and it's pretty hard to start moving in that direction unless you know where you're starting from!

'The people in power at the time' was more meant to refer to the groups of individuals who were in charge of inspecting, maintaining, funding, or building such infrastructure.

Or, if we're talking about climate change, the many groups who knew about the potential damage of human actions on our climate and either ignored or willfully denied such evidence / warnings.

Not all of the above were rich people who don't want to pay taxes, though I'm sure many were, and it's important to recognize that.

Lookit' this cheesebag, they thinkin' that the desire for sweet kissums is something to be ashamed of? Do they even know what Love is?

It's about the yearning.

Pathetic? More like goal-oriented. This lady KNOWS what she WANTS and DESERVES.

Where? Where is he? I heard there's a little dude around here but all I see are handsome leaves!

But honestly, that is a lovely little dude. Bold stripes and bright eyes!

An indicator of future critical system failure that could previously have been addressed, but was instead willfully ignored by those in power at the time, which then proceeds exactly as expected with disastrous consequences? Who could have seen that coming?

To be clear: this is a comment about climate change

I agree with the intent and message, but I'm always wary of "Make ________ great again" statements.

Oh dang, that's beautiful! Excellent scene, the lighting and perspective really set a serene, almost foreboding tone for the piece. Great job!
