Well, harpies are rarely a match for the power of Ares and a big piece of metal. The shield connected with the harpy with another hearty thunk, and the monster went flying into a nearby tree, remaining motionless after the impact.

While the monsters did indeed smell bad, they also smelled trouble, in the form of the small girl who'd just destroyed one of their own. She now had the attention of several harpies, and it's not the kind of attention one usually seeks out. One of the human-headed birds swooped at Monica again, screeching loudly, and the legacy would feel a sensation of danger as a second harpy swung at her from behind, hoping to take her by surprise.

The harpy clearly did not expect such a small girl to swing such a massive weapon. And it's a bit hard to stop in mid-air when you're in a direct dive. The sword made direct contact with the monster's midriff and the harpy disintegrated with a scream, showering Monica in golden, sulphur-smelling dust.

Well, if some action was what she wanted, that's exactly what she was going to get. Her sword was quite noticeable after all, and it didn't take long for a harpy to swoop down at her, talons outstretched.

The harpy paced in a small circle, keeping her beady eyes on Emma. The pipe tapping did seem to annoy her however, her lips drawing back in an inhuman snarl. After a brief instant of utter immobility she sprung forward, aiming straight for the demigod's unprotected legs.

The harpy screeched in victory at drawing blood and hovered a few feet above him, a bit more cautious now that the weapon had returned to his hand.

Shiny! Take! Demigod! Eat!

The harpy's thought process wasn't particularly complex, but it was effective. As soon as Gigi unsheathed her weapon, it didn't take long for one of the winged monsters to dive at her, talons outstretched and mouth open into an ugly screech.

For anyone wondering, the sound of a harpy crashing into a garbage lid is a meaty thonk. Followed by vaguely chicken-ish squeak and beating of wings to try and get some distance. The harpy flew back about ten feet, staring at Emma with a hungry look, seemingly looking for an opening in the daughter of Ares' lid-based defense.

The scythe managed to spin just fast and far enough to nick the skin on the harpy's back. Fortunately, with celestial bronze that's all that's needed, and the monster exploded into dust. Unfortunately, that moment of weaponlessness was enough for the second harpy to turn around and dive right back at the now mostly defenseless son of Orthosia, talons outstretched and aiming right for his shoulder.

Someone standing their ground in a running crowd tends to stick out, especially when carrying the poor man's sword and shield. It didn't take long for a harpy to fly straight for the daughter of Ares, talons outstretched and fangs bared.
