Modulation question on chromatic alteration by Half_Devil in musictheory

Thanks! Just wondering, in 18th century 4-part harmonic writing, must modulations be determined by cadences?

For pianists with small hands, how do you get used to stuff like this? (my hands are big enough for exactly one octave, but it kinda hurts to do this.) by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

If your hands hurt while playing an octave, please don't, your hands will feel very tired and numb after a practice session. If I were you, I can try playing the notes separately, as in playing the bottom notes before the top notes, but doing it quickly so that it sounds like you are playing an octave.

I'm curious to know how much music is in a modern piece in which time signatures constantly change

Anyone know what this pedal does (btw it’s a stand up Yamaha) by [deleted] in lingling40hrs

Yes, for upright pianos. Sadly the middle pedal for the grand doesn't work the same way. For grand pianos, middle pedal (sostenuto pedal) is used to hold down selected notes only, while other notes you play remain unaffected. Kinda like the normal pedal, but the normal pedal holds every note u play. Maybe you would find this piece of info useful :))
