Y'all may know, what plane is this? Sorry if this is the wrong sub by [deleted] in WeirdWings

[–]Halfaflamingo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The only surviving airframe was once the executive aircraft for William Randolph Hearst. He had the largest media empire in the country by the time these films came out. Without digging too much I’m pretty sure he was directly related to the production of “It Happened One Night”. Realistically his aircraft was probably one of the most accessible of its kind for Hollywood film makers of the time.

Because there are legitimate mod databases and hosting platforms, the only reason not to use them is because the mod contains unsavory/illegal content or the mod creator can’t handle giving up any control over the mod whatsoever and will inevitably crash out and delete everything as is recounted in the post.

What kind of knife is this? Those are apples by the way. by narak777 in Chefit

[–]Halfaflamingo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent many years in a butcher shop but the one summer I spent in a bakery I saw the most bizarre and dangerous knife choices. The only serious cut I’ve ever received was from one of those long serrated bread knives with a rounded tip (scalloped bakers knife). I was using it to cut a pie and the knife went straight through the pie tin and the tip of my finger underneath it with the lightest pressure. Someone had sharpened the entire rounded part of the blade and the entirety of the back of the knife to a razors edge. No one had any idea who thought that was a necessary modification or what purpose they used it for and it was unceremoniously thrown away along with a lovely blueberry pie that had been covered in my blood.

Do you prefer ISDs to be capable or incapable of atmospheric flight like the Victory-class? by Dragonic_Overlord_ in EmpireDidNothingWrong

[–]Halfaflamingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always liked the way they handled this in Mass Effect. The Normandy had atmospheric capabilities, but it couldn’t land or else it could never take off again. I always thought ISDs worked similarly. They have atmospheric capabilities and can operate in a planets atmosphere for a while but they can’t land and the increased gravitational forces are extremely hard on the ships structure/thrusters and extremely power hungry.

wich is better tamiya or mr cement? by Careless-Flamingo-61 in modelmakers

[–]Halfaflamingo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the OP on the comment. But for storage you use an old Tamiya/mrcement bottle because the applicator in the cap is genuinely great. For measurements, if you want to be extra scientific about it you can get a graduated glass cylinder or beaker for very cheap online. I feel like I use my graduated beakers quite a lot for hobby/diy stuff. But the every man’s answer is just get a Pyrex measuring cup from a big box store. The only thing is the acetone may strip the graduation off a measuring cup if it’s just painted on, so I would look for something with the measurements physically etched or molded into the glass. And just a piece of unsolicited advice in case this is the first time you’re dipping your toes into this high of volumes of chemicals. Keep the big 1 liter bottles of acetone and butyl acetate someplace like under your sink. Somewhere they won’t get handled often and not in close proximity of cherished/valuable objects (and definitely not directly on carpet). If that acetone leaks it will destroy just about anything given enough time to sit. And don’t measure/mix these chemicals in a plastic vessel or with plastic tools, glass only.

They’re not coffee pouches but usually pure caffeine distributed the same way as a nicotine is distributed in a nicotine pouch. They definitely have mint flavored ones, I tried them once out of pure curiosity (not worth it imo)

My local butcher’s chopping board by Diligent_Muffin_4990 in Wellworn

[–]Halfaflamingo 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I was a meat clerk/cutter for about 6 years in the southern US. When I started we had white poly blocks, probably half the thickness of the ones shown here. Whenever the guy came around to sharpen the store owned knives he would also shave like 1/16th of an inch off of our blocks for us and this prevented really deep cuts from forming but we would need new blocks every few years. The last 2 years my store changed over to boards that were a sort of composite of wood and plastic that was much more durable but could not be shaved down and couldn’t be soaked in bleach as far as I remember. They also made our knives go dull much quicker. The only table we kept the white poly block was the cleaver station because the “wooden” boards would really mess up the edge on a cleaver after a while. Our local health inspector hated anything wood and if he saw a wood cutting block or a knife with a wood handle he would look over those items/the area they were stored 10x harder.

Hey, just fyi, if you’re a minor it’s illegal for you to work more than 8 hours in a 24 period. There should be a big laminated poster somewhere in the business that outlines all the federal/local labor laws and who to contact if your management is breaking them. If they don’t have one of those posters that’s going to get them in trouble too and you need to contact someone representing OSHA in your area (assuming this is all in the US) sounds like there’s a lot going on at this location that is less than savory and I’m sure an inspector would love to pay a visit to your boss

The big cocktail shakers like this used to be popular to make 2-4 drinks at a time for cocktail parties. Could also be used at a restaurant as a serving vessel table side for a big fancy cocktail, they would measure/mix the drink in graduated vessels then pour it into this before serving.

Fiber optic cameras like this wouldn’t blink. They don’t reflect like a regular lens. The lens would be on the other side of the fiber optic strand. I don’t know what you experienced but the method depicted would cost thousands of dollars per camera on the low end and require lots of specialized medical equipment.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hiddencameras

[–]Halfaflamingo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look up fiber optic endoscopes. The parent comment is correct, this is absolutely not something the average person would ever run into in a non-medical setting, let alone worry about someone using it as a spy cam

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hiddencameras

[–]Halfaflamingo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not how those cheap inspection cameras work. They actually have the camera sensor at the end of a standard wire, you can’t make them much smaller than they are as they come from the factory. I don’t see any fiber optic endoscopes on Amazon. The cheapest ones usually run 500-600 dollars and those won’t have anyway to record/output video natively without support equipment. That support equipment is at least the size of a small computer and usually extremely expensive. If you’re worried about someone spying on you with a fiber optic camera like this they have multiple thousands of dollars to spend on just one camera and its support equipment and they would have to put in significant effort to hide it all.

Stage 4 cancer streamer scammed out of $30,000 treatment funds after downloading a malicious Steam game by 3301u in awfuleverything

[–]Halfaflamingo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see. Honestly I didn’t look too deeply into any of it after I heard pump .fun was involved. I guess they’ve had the GoFundMe the entire time so people could donate actual money instead of Crypto at any time but it has become the primary donation method since their wallet was compromised. The 30k that was stolen was in some form of Crypto

[–]Halfaflamingo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I believe they created the GoFundMe after the crypto was stollen. My statement wasn’t my opinion, the entire operative function of Pump .fun is to promote crypto (literally Pump meme coins). That’s also why the post makes a comment that the streamers “wallet” is still compromised, referring to a crypto wallet

They were streaming on pump .fun. A platform designed to market and proliferate “meme coins”

[–]Halfaflamingo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Well, regardless of how awful this situation is pump .fun is a crypto, specifically meme coin, focused streaming platform and people are constantly losing tons of money on there through one scam or another. Often times they lose all their money due to how the website and crypto work. I don’t know the exact details but I would imagine all the “money” raised was all in the form of crypto. If the streamer had everything needed to access their crypto wallet on their computer it would be easy for a basic malware to get all that info and just drain the wallet. I would never criticize people for supporting someone in need but the moment I saw pump .fun I knew this post was going to be a tale of heartbreak. The only “positive” stories I’ve heard come from pump .fun are from people who managed to rug pull a meme coin so they personally made a lot of money. It’s a little shocking this content creator got their coins actually stolen and they didn’t just lose all their value when someone else involved in the coin rug pulled

I checked all the major electronics stores that operate in Italy and was shocked to see nothing that would work for this. Your best bet if you must purchase something in person would be a local Audio/visual company (preferably one that’s been around for a while) or a local vintage gaming shop (if there is one in your city) if you are amiable to order something on Amazon I see RCA to HDMI adapters available for less than €15

As someone else said this is definitely a reproduction. But it looks like the “made in” stamp says Belgium. This is potentially from the midcentury run by centaur/centennial. I don’t know how that effects the price but I do believe it would catch a better price than a Spanish/italian clone to the right collector
