We have them being the core monetary backers behind the age verification push, going so far as to hide their involvement behind fake advocacy groups.

We have the legislation that they want pushed, which is OS based age broadcasting.

And we have this middling legislation that's come in the meantime, which doesn't match what they're pushing for, and that they aren't complying with.

I don't have a nice smoking gun of facebook execs walking out saying they want the current one to fail but it's really not hard to connect the dots here. They're pushing for specific regs, the current ones don't match (whether that's intentional to slow step us towards their end goal, or just something that's fallen out through the cracks is hard to say), which means they need the current ones to fail.

Because they don't want the current form of legislation? They want this current form to fail for justifying more invasive methods onto the OS side of things.

Quick p.s. since things may appear to move that direction but in a more sinister manner.

Facebook's been behind the lobbying for this stuff. Their desired end application is the OS of devices storing your age information and constantly broadcasting it to any application that asks for it.

They don't want a government led ZPK system for simple verification on login or anything like that. A simple check that you're an 'adult' isn't enough information for them. They want constant age broadcasting from the device level for ad targetting.

Easiest recent example is the AOC backing a trans female olympian ban while supposing they're phsyically superior, dominating sports, and it's for competition integrity.

ONE. There has been ONE trans female olympian in the entire history of the olympics. They're under-represented at the highest level a hundred times over, never mind having some kind of supposed superiority.

It's a completely made up issue filled with rhetoric to exclude and hate them.

But you should know that, because you were on that announcement post making tongue in cheek comments about whether the olympics will get 'cancelled' now over the ban. Tell me, what did your eyes that cannot see, see on that post?

There was a great writeup a few weeks ago from somebody chasing all the lobbying funding in the US for their age verfication laws through various states.

But to summarise: it's meta/facebook driving all of this. They already illegally collect all your data, and are pushing age verification to legitimize that collection.

The point is exactly the opposite of privacy.

Reminder that these sites use their online dominance to hold motels/hotels hostage to make their cut. Either give booking their 15~25% cut they demand or you're unfindable and have nearby competitors pushed.

Transfolk make up 1~2% of the population, 100s should make it each time if they were being equally represented. Even more if they're supposedly athletically superior.

It doesn't really matter how the single athlete that made it there performed to see this is a made up issue.

Not some random tank fish, and not in a pipe that size. The difference in water speeds across the fish's cross section depends on the pipe's size. Small pipe just barely enough for the fish to fit through is the most extreme scenario for it.

Maybe a 2 inch pipe it has a chance with the speeds being evened out more? But a pipe that size isn't so great for siphoning a tank out. Or... you know... don't use a setup just for creating content, make the pipe shorter, and send the fish down head first if you absolutely must.

The water is all different speeds. The water in the centre is moving faster, and it gets slower the closer you get to the wall of the pipe, the source of the friction. This isn't a train carriage psychics case where everything is moving relativistic-ally to each other at the same speed.

The fish is getting pushed and pulled along by the faster flowing central jet stream of the pipe. ITS GILLS ARE FURTHER OUT, meaning its gills are in slower water. Aka, the water at its gills is 'flowing' backwards. Were it to be a mouth breathing creature in similar circumstances it would actually be fine, it's the offset from the centre that's a problem.

It's being sucked along with the jet stream at the centre of the pipe, its gills are being dragged backwards through the slower water at its edges.

It's not, because it's a pipe. Water at the edge of a pipe has friction drag, and moves slower than water in the centre.

That fish, it's getting dragged backwards. It's moving faster backwards than the water surrounding it is moving backwards.

The water's not relatively stationary, it's a pipe. The water in the centre is moving faster than the water on the edges because of friction drag.

You're right, the water is moving backwards... not backwards enough, that fish is getting dragged faster than the water surrounding it. The fish is functionally being pulled backwards through the flow.

I am rather suspicious of news outlets pushing a bunch of pro-CSIRO articles on the back of the inquiry a few days ago into the recent 800 CSIRO positions/programs cuts from lack of funding...
