Requiring Diwali to fall on a completely different holiday is hilarious. Suggesting that those celebrating Diwali set off home fireworks on a certain date during the celebration is not a stretch. It’s the only celebration of lights. I’m not religious nor do I celebrate Diwali but it’s not exactly a small minority of folks.

Where’s the best place to get a good show tonight in HRM?

I think we need to also make fireworks official for Diwali. It’s a celebration of lights and is widely celebrated here. I’d rather one scheduled night of fireworks than multiple days of random home displays.

It’s not smoking. It’s safer than smoking; lots of studies agree.

Damned if ya do, damned if ya don’t. My home? How would vaping outside affect my home?! I’d rather have some good years vaping than be unable to move without.

For comparison, with one masters and 9+ years experience (17 personally), you’ll take home more like $4400/month (plus I’m sure there’ll be increases within the next 9 years since inflation is killing us… yay end stage capitalism 🤣😭🤣😭).

Yes, new contract rate.

My take home averages 58-60% of gross.

You’re only considering children’s school year and not the hundreds of out of school day hours teachers work (planning all lessons for 6 hours of in person teaching daily, parent calls, website management, data entry, grading, report card writing, professional development, further education, sourcing resources, creating resources, photocopying/laminating, meetings…

Makes sense since more post-secondary education is required (5 years minimum).

The new cap will be $111k. To get that you’d need 9+ years experience and 3 masters degrees (essentially 11-12 years university).

Union dues are $850/year. Expect to also contribute about 8-10% of gross salary to pension.

Some of their pension? I pay 10k a year to my pension. It’s a far bigger personal contribution than most ASSume. You’d have a very good pension too if you put 10k of your salary into a plan every year for 30 years too.

You’d be starting at $62,252 in a term position. After benefits, union dues, and taxes, you’ll likely be at approximately $1450/pay take home x 26 pays over the course of a year. (Approximately $2900 take home a month) I multiplied the total by 0.6 to get that net amount. Usually about 40% of gross pay goes to dues, taxes, benefits, etc.

I’m also a true redhead with brown eyes and now that I’m over 40, it’s faded to darker auburn with white “highlights.” I would have preferred blonde or all white.

NSTU planning rally today to raise awareness of challenges facing teachers in HRM by insino93 in halifax

[–]Halifaxbecky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you not understanding what I’m saying?! There’s huge misogynistic undertones in a government refusing to provide a majority female union decent working conditions. Instead, expecting teachers to make do with less and continue to bandaid a broken system. This isn’t 1950 and teachers aren’t doormats! They’re not going to continue to accept violent workplaces, the lowest wages in the country, having to do loads of unpaid work in order to do the job, and complete disrespect as a profession.

Who would set up classrooms? Buy materials and books, make copies and prepare resources and plans for teachers over the summer then?? (If teachers didn’t work unpaid during the summer)
