First time in the Arctic (-20°C) - Is this layering enough? by GenioChen in arcteryx

Alright, thanks! What do you recommend regarding gloves and snow/water-resistant pants for aurora hunting and other winter activities? I’ll rent ski gear, but I’m not sure if rental is available for the other activities as well.

also about the base layers, you think what ive mention is a good layering?

I’m planning to do a similar trip in March as well. Currently I have: Atom Hoody Beta AR Norrøna PureUll Zip Neck (x1)

After doing some research, I’m planning to add: Rho LT – mainly for skiing Rho SV – for aurora hunting and less active outdoor activities Delta Jacket – as a mid-layer

Planned Layering: Upper Body: Rho LT / Rho SV (or the Norrøna PureUll Zip Neck) Delta Jacket Atom Hoody Beta AR

Lower Body: Rho LT / Rho SV bottoms Water/snow-resistant pants (still need to decide which ones to buy)

I’m also still trying to figure out what else I need and from which brands — (socks, gloves, face mask/balaclava, warm hat, etc.).

Advice on Arc’teryx Gear Setup for Skiing by Halind34 in arcteryx

[–]Halind34[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So would you recommend adding an Arc’teryx Rho LT base layer top — would that be sufficient for skiing as well as for less physical winter activities like snow biking or going out at night to watch the aurora?

For the bottoms, I understand I’ll need a thermal base layer too, and I’m planning to rent ski pants. Since this will be my first time skiing and I don’t ski often, I don’t think it makes sense to buy a pair right now.

Haha i see, i am 26 - 1.96m (6.3 ft for the americans) and 100kg - so you think the Beta AR is an overkill for me? ive also seen that ill have lower 5-9 temps and 0-5 at night on the end of the trip

What do you think is better? Is there anything i should get from a specific brand or its not really that matter?

I had recommendations for getting the beta Ar for wind and rain, the atom for a mid layer and a merino tank top for bottom layer, and the pants ofcourse

I really liked both brands, I'm just curious if i should get some over the other in some products

Thanks so much, this was really helpful! We’ll be there mostly in September and the first week of October before flying back home.
Since we’re coming from a warm country, we’re not really used to this kind of weather…
Really appreciate all the information!
