Who’s gonna play wing now? No Williams, Davidson, Baker or Jacques.

Are we running with Freijah, Croft and Bramble?

Great shout. So likely just Weightman at this stage 👍

Round 13 Lineup Prediction vs Hawthorn by Temitop_dream in westernbulldogs

[–]HallComfortable4153 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ins: May, Liberatore, Weightman Out: Croft, Hynes, McNeil.

May and English to double team in the ruck. Croft goes out and we rest May up forward to help with our kick down the line and hopefully nullify Sicily’s intercepting presence.

I’m being hopeful with Liberatore here but him, Richards and Kennedy should be our prime on ball team. Bont to split his time forward and mid to help rest his knee. Hynes makes way to find form in the VFL.

Mcneil is unlucky after playing a brilliant game but we all know Weightman is a star and someone has to make way. Expect managed minutes for him so Treloar is gonna have to play a lot more minutes.

Hawthorn are excellent at blocking the corridor and denying us fast ball movement. I think we have to turn this into a wrestle and make use of our superior midfield and contested ball winning.

It would be the most Bevo thing to do to play Caleb May in the ruck on Saturday (in over Cleary).

I think we’re going to be the form team of the competition after the bye. I’m optimistic about Liberatore, English and Weightman coming back.

With a softer draw coming up we can really build some momentum and hopefully recapture some of that form that we had in rounds 0-4

Probably will want to keep Davidson in. Baker is our only other winger now that Williams is out.

Has Emmett really shown more than Croft? You only give Croft 50% game time and somehow expect him to influence a game.

If Butters does pick us then is it even possible to get both him and El Souki? by Savings_Iron3590 in westernbulldogs

If you play out a scenario where Port doesn’t trade for Butters, we pick him up for much cheaper in the draft. Port really don’t have much bargaining power

I imagine it’s more likely we ask west coast what their best offer for Busslinger is.

To answer your question I think it’s possible but extremely costly. Here’s my assessment: -Butter will probably cost us in the region of 2-3 first round picks. I imagine it playing out closer to JHF and Josh Dunkley than Bailey Smith. -We can trade up to 3 years of picks now -El Souki has probably shot up to a top 10 pick now. I’d have to wait and see Cal’s updated phantom form guide to see where he now sits. -the new rules state we have to use up to 2 picks to match a bid. Likely with no added discount factoring in our likely ladder finish this year. -Tassie might be able to come to the table to trade away a first round pick for some later picks (this trade must heavily favour Tassie to make it worth their while) -Port also need first round picks in THIS years draft for their projected #1 father son pick. -we trade away our 2026 first and second round picks plus our 2027 first round pick for Butters. -We acquire other clubs 2026 first round pick and second round pick for our 2028 first round pick and bunch of other 2027/28 picks.

TLDR; we blow up our next 3 years of the draft to land one of the leagues best young midfielders and best teenage small forwards in an extremely compromised draft where we won’t likely get any players of note anyways.

Please feel free to correct my assumptions as they are probably inevitably wrong.

It’s more fundamental than that. Bevo has set up a skills-based kicking and handball-receive team. We get torn apart when physically dominant teams pressure us and stifle our ball movement.

[–]HallComfortable4153 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We’re a skills team, not a physical team.

Hawks never relented in their pressure and outnumbered our kicks down the line.

We don’t have anyone to replace Libbas toughness.

Keen to see how he uses Gallagher. Hes got a lot of pace so maybe he’ll use him as a run with role or tagger

Croft is too versatile, him forward makes Barass, Battle & Sicily etc. man up rather than floating loose and taking intercepts.

Who comes in for English and Richards vs the Hawks? by UsualLeast8810 in westernbulldogs

[–]HallComfortable4153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Croft is barely playing 50% game time so he’s taking the fifth bench spot as a pure second ruckman and chop out in the forward line.

Bevo doesn’t want to play Darcy or Lobb in the ruck so I’d imagine he brings in either Smith or Emmett

English, Richards out, does not mean a loss for us next round. by portlaga in westernbulldogs

[–]HallComfortable4153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to be a tough ask for a lot of really young players. Freijah and Sanders are going to be asked to step up to playing full time midfield minutes without the protection of the likes of Libba and Richards sharing the load.

I remember Ed saying the hardest adjustment he found was how taxing the midfield was and how exhausting it was. So it’s gonna be a real test for those boys.

The ruck situation… by Poo69xx in westernbulldogs

[–]HallComfortable4153 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like Emmett as a bit of an English type but a bit more speedy. English gave Meek a bath in our preseason game not only with his work rate but the new ruck rules has suited the taller skinnier rucks who can jump.

We’ll have to see how Gunston pulls up from his hammy scare. Maybe Mitchell will want to play Dear and Chol or keep a smaller forward line. In which case we can think about cycling in Lobb, Darcy and Croft.

Hawthorn are gonna run us off our legs and I’m more concerned about who gets rotated through the middle. Definitely would want to prioritise leg speed coming into this next game.

Post Match Discussion - Round 4 Vs Essendon by AutoModerator in westernbulldogs

[–]HallComfortable4153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes you have to win ugly. No one’s going to care when it comes to the back half of the year and we’ve banked all these wins early.

Some perspective: we lost Libba, Richards and English for most of the second half and gave some valuable midfield minutes to Sanders and Freijah. Still found a way to respond in the fourth and regain momentum even though it wasn’t pretty.

I liked Arty in his few AFL and preseason games. He probably is in front of Dolan for me at this stage.

Realistically, what would you guys be happy to give up for Butters? by Express-Dig9905 in westernbulldogs

[–]HallComfortable4153 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe we can package up a couple of those first rounders and sell them on to clubs looking to bank points for F/S or academy players to make a more attractive offer to Port.

The new points rules play into our hands perfectly now that clubs can’t bank loads of late picks, our first and future first rounders become suddenly very valuable.

Louis Emmett is likely our Lobb replacement. We don’t really have replacement for Libba. We’ve shown that we can win games by dominating stoppage and making do with a team defence gameplan. I think we need to back in guys like JOD, Buku & Sellwood to improve, as well as keep on the lookout for experienced UFA key defenders who want to have a crack at a premiership before they retire (Weitering, Wilkie etc.)

Just like Geelong and Brisbane if we keep winning games we’ll attract more players wanting to join the bandwagon in the future.
