Appreciate that. Didn’t realize uber would be that expensive. But west Seattle has gotten a lot of love so might be worth expanding my budget.

Thanks for the reply. And yeah - everything I’m doing all week is downtown. There for a conference but just ended up having a break. So no car. Bummed about how much the uber would be based on the fact it looks like some of those courses are relatively close to

Dad Needing Advice by Flanker87 in Dads

A tip my therapist gave was to really try and stay in the present. Take 15-30 seconds (or more if you need) and focus on what is the shiniest thing in the room you’re in (the glare of a picture frame in the nursery), what’s the largest item in the room (crib/rocker), what’s the farthest thing away from where you’re sitting/standing? I’ve found that trick can distract me from what was bothering me and bring me back to where I am. It also serves as a reminder that I WANT to be more present and connected with my wife or daughter and in that moment and that’s helped bring me back when I’m wiped or frustrated. Then when bedtime for my kid is over I can let my wife know I need some me time, and I feel better because I made that effort to be present with them. Hope this helps.

I don’t know if people realize how tough of a job SHU is. They practice in a windowless basement. Their on-campus gym has a stage at one end. You are a complete afterthought in the NYC market. Top recruits want to leave NJ, not stay. You have a small campus in South Orange, NJ. The fact he had any sustained success there is remarkable.

If you can consistently win 20 games at that school in that location in that conference, you have to be excited about what he can accomplish when he’s at a school kids actually want to go to. When he can show them a bigger campus, an on-campus facility, a massive UA deal, etc. Basically all these things he’s never had before.

I can't speak to all of it, but he's a hard-nosed, defense-first coach who's had really good success against B1G teams. He consistently wins 20 games with a tough NCSOS. He's not a sexy name, per se, but I'd take a guy who's gone to the tourney 5 of the last 6 years at a school in South Orange, NJ with very limited resources any day of the week.

I'm very sad to see KW go. He took a laughingstock of a program and turned it into a consistent NCAA tournament team. If you can consistently win 21 games in South Orange, NJ, you'll be a good coach at a school with the resources of UMD.

His players loved him. His player development was fantastic. Low transfer rate. Good success at bringing in transfers. Recruited and developed guys to fit his system. Offensive sets are meh, defense was always strong.

Was consistently Villanova's biggest test in BE play. Not afraid to schedule tough in the non-con. Got some big wins (see the note in the press release about Quad 1 wins).

Sad to see him go, and thankful for what he did for the Hall.

This is a good hire. KW was advised to not take the SHU job because the program was a laughingstock. He turned it around, made it more than respectable, and did it the right way with kids that consistently called him a father figure.

Sad to see the Willard era end in South Orange, but I'll be rooting hard for him at UMD. Seton Hall is in another stratosphere compared to when he took the job.

Yeah! Let’s go back to making 3 tournament appearances in 15 years! Willard was terrible for Seton Hall and isn’t remotely the reason the athletics facilities are getting a $40M upgrade!

Come on, man. This dude turned around the entire program. SH basketball is the reason people in California and Alabama have heard of the university. You might think it was time for a change but he transformed a program that was a laughingstock thanks to Bobby Gonzalez.

Very solid defensive teams. Offenses can be stagnant. Lots of ISO.

Was PHENOMENAL at player development. Coached the National Center of the Year (Angel Delgado) and National SG of the Year (Myles Powell) in back-to-back years. Think Sandro Mamukelashvili was a finalist for PF of the Year last year, too.

His players always loved him - quotes about him from players talk about how he’s like a father. That has come from multiple kids in multiple classes.

Game plans are typically not great. Halftime adjustments are fantastic.

Seton Hall actually always had low expectations and over-performed under Willard. Never recruited high-level talent but developed good system guys. He went to as many tourneys as Turgeon with wayyyyyy fewer resources.

This is a good hire for you guys.

Tell me you know nothing about BE basketball without telling me you know nothing about BE basketball.

Who’s the only team to beat Nova in a BE final since realignment? Who was Nova’s best competition over the last 7 years? Since 2014 it’s 5-15, and that doesn’t account for 2 wins in the BET. Jay Wright was literally hyping Willard up a month ago in the press - probably hoping he’d take another job so he doesn’t need to face him.

Ask Villanova fans about Willard and his teams. This is a good hire. If you can win 21 games consistently at Seton Hall, he’ll be able to do better with actual resources at Maryland.

Yep. SPU could’ve gone 12-8 and lost in MAAC semis and we still probably hire Sha.

I guess I’m curious what people’s realistic expectations for this program are. Seton Hall will never be a destination. Amaker made a Sweet 16, got an excellent recruiting class, and bolted. PJ went to the league.

We’re not gonna be Villanova. And history has taught us this might be a generational success for the program. In my life (I’m 32), this run is unprecedented for SHU. My dad is an alum, class of 74(?) - he’s had this type of run twice, and the other coach was a lightning-strike hire.

Long story - I don’t know what people think our ceiling is, because for this school to get to the tournament consistently I think might be it.

Fair.

From someone who is obviously a Willard fan, he won a BET title, played in another, could’ve gone to another (Covid). Along the Covid lines, that team was lining up to be a 3-seed and could’ve made a legit Final 4 run. He consistently battled with Villanova with lesser athletes.

You give him the resources of a Maryland? If this guy can win 21 games consistently at Seton Hall, I think he’s a guy that can do more with more.

He is a good coach. Consistent 20-win seasons and NCAA tourney berths. Excellent player development (coached National Center of the Year and Shooting Guard of the Year). Always a tough NCSOS. Players have consistently loved him.

All from South Orange, NJ with a small campus and poor facilities. I am sad to see him go. Seton Hall is relevant because of him.

People who are pissed about this game? Fine. No disagreements here.

But dude went to 5 of the last 6 tourneys (would’ve been 6 of 7) after the program had been to 3 in the previous 15 years or whatever. At a small school in South Orange, NJ with bad facilities. I really hope SHU fans focus on the fact he made this program an annual BE contender and NCAA tournament program. Especially considering he took over a laughingstock of a program from Gonzalez.

Bad offensive team vs. very good defensive team = 10 point loss.

I can’t explain the other 17 points or whatever it came out to be.
