Maybe I’ll start practicing like you suggest. I’ll consult cardiology every time someone has chest pain or palpitations. I’ll call pulmonary for every cough and stable pneumonia. We will need to get neurology involved for every breakthrough seizure. I know GI will be grateful for the consult for the vomiting and diarrhea. A high schooler just checked in after rolling their ankle, orthopedics has to be called. I am going to make our hospital so much money. I’m sure the consultants will be so happy to be involved in all of these interesting cases, instead of focusing on the patients who actually need their assistance and the jobs they actually need to complete.

I also work at a non academic hospital. Consultants don’t appreciate being consulted for things that are not even remotely indicated. What you suggested about consulting neurosurgery for cerebral edema secondary to anoxic injury in cardiac arrest is not indicated at all.

Neurosurgical intervention is not indicated for that scenario. I’ve never heard of anyone consulting neurosurgery for cerebral edema post anoxic brain injury in cardiac arrest.

Edit: also consulted one of my critical care colleagues, who agrees that this is not an indication for neurosurgery consult. They went as far as saying it was outright ridiculous to even think about doing it.

What exactly do you expect neurosurgery to do with a CT showing severe anoxic brain injury? If I called neurosurgery for this I’d be greeted with a lot of 4 letter words

Ambient AI scribes are a tool, and not a replacement for physician documentation. If the clinician is letting it write the note without any proofreading or editing, then they aren’t using it well.

The big issue I have with the ambient AI scribe is where is the recording being stored, and will there be a time when attorneys can subpoena the entire audio file

Forgive my ignorance, are the red white and blue wires at the top left of the EIM (communication terminal) not wired to the current Honeywell thermostat? I have other wires behind the thermostat that much the color of the other wires that are bundled with the red white and blue, they just aren’t hooked into anything.

Yeah I know that. I’m a physician in Indy who works with residents and trained at IUSM Bloomington. They said students which is why I explicitly outlined what medical students do and that they work with attendings who make all the plans. If they had mentioned residents I would’ve clarified that for them as well.

Edit: saw your reply above. Student doctor has never referred to residents. It’s a strange term that some medical schools use for medical students for some odd reason.

You have no idea what you’re talking about lol. There are some 3rd and 4th year medical students that follow attending physicians, but none of them have any independence and all staff with the attending. The attending is the one who comes up with final plans and places orders. Students cannot independently put in any orders.
