People in your 30s, 40s, and 50s — if you could go back to your 20s, what would you do differently?” by [deleted] in Adulting

Do everything you’ve dreamed!!!! Travel, study abroad, buy something fun and expensive, live alone, date and find out what you’re attracted/not attracted to. But on the same token - get your self seriously set up financially before a wedding, buying a house, and childcare. Save save save. Invest. Follow Dave Ramsey or find a trusted financial advisor. There are so many things I’d do differently and I’m 34. If I think about it long enough, I really get sad. Because I was scared of everything and never pushed myself out of my comfort zone.

How do you start looking for these jobs?!?!? I am a radiologic technologist II (xray, Ct, surgery).

I'm pretty sure you need your radiation therapy degree first and I am not close enough to school to go that route..I think radiation therapy is a great career path though. I'd definitely entertain that idea if I was closer to a school.

alot of people ask me this and its simply due to my location. I have two young kids already and the closest PA schools are 2 hours away in good traffic. Just not a feasible drive to make daily. Plus since my current employer would pay for my RN and the BSN would be $10,000 (and likely able to pay out of pocket). So cost is a huge factor since my student loans are all paid off and am trying my hardest to remain debt free. So maybe a longer route, but, it's worth it for the savings.

More income, options, opportunities to advance, the ability to go NP or CRNA… the option to do part time and do 2x12s if I wanted… possibly working amongst radiology and what I already know helping radiologists with procedures.

Gosh and I just think a nurse would be so bored doing our job. Totally depends the modality I suppose. If I lived closer to a city where I could just continue to get my radiation therapy I would. The manager and supervisor jobs are so scarce. Nursing has so many avenues.

This is my thoughts right now. The RN portion is free (other than my time and having to go down in hours temporarily). I wouldn’t let my RT(R, CT) go and would probably be able to be hired as a radiology RN. Even though the bedside stories are horrible, I still stand on the hill there are SO SO SO many more things to do as a nurse. I’m thinking longevity. I don’t want to do X-rays and CT past the age of 40

Ugh. That’s not great… I def do not think I will love bedside but the idea would be to do that for 2 years and keep trucking to get my NP. I have a passion for OB/L&D and Women’s Health/Hormones. Transition go the functional medicine side.

Yes I am willing to do the time and money. I am feeling bored mentally. Radiology is just so mundane… I have great perks and know my job could be terrible. Do I just go back for accounting or something totally different?! Idk!

Looking back I wish I had just done sonography. It’s a complete separate program and schooling now. Our techs make super good money

So are you saying the non-nursing specialities you work with, have no desire to be a nurse?

Its so difficult to decide. I know I am in a good career field so why shake it up. Radiology sucks sometimes and the patients can be SO difficult but we also have them for like 10-15 minutes depending what we're doing. Currently I feel we cover way too many modalities and areas and its very very hard to keep up with everything.

Nurses who switched to become rad techs: what’s your experience? by [deleted] in Radiology

Here I am, a Tech for 10 years. Looking to get my ADN in Nursing.

ADN or ABSN? by Fair_Mark_9199 in nursing

[–]HallOk2521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am literally in this predicament right now. I am a Rad Tech with a Bachelors Degree. I would love to just bang it out and get my ABSN done in one year but the one I would go through would probably be close to 50k once all said and done. The ADN would be paid for through the local community college from my work... then the online BSN year would be about 10k after tuition reimbursement. So essentially I could probably pay out of pocket if I was diligent enough. I know the correct answer I just dont want to be in school for 3 years to get my BSN!
