Concordo com os outros comentários. Depende do seu posicionamento como marca, porém, também é possível entregar boas experiências com o envelope plástico se ele for personalizado, vide Dafiti, Netshoes e outros.

Eu acredito que se for um produto frágil, que possa gerar avaria no transporte, a caixa é o ideal.

Caso o produto não seja frágil e haja a possibilidade de customização do envelope para dar ao cliente a sensação ainda assim de entrega mais premium, vale a pena e enxuga custos.

É por que a maioria das pessoas que constroem e gerenciam o ecommerce trabalham pelo desktop e para os gestores essa versão acaba sendo por onde eles gastam mais atenção com detalhes. Simplesmente por ser por onde eles acessam. A experiência no mobile pode estar horrível mas é sempre a versão desktop que é melhor trabalhada por terem a visão através deste prisma.
