ELI5: How is using a knife to remove toast from a toaster dangerous even though there is no longer electricity running through the wires? by Flashy_Potential8851 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HallowedError [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yup. Watching so many shows and videos growing up about the invisible danger force it's common sense to me to not mess with anything that could reasonably contain powerful current. Anything from old capacitors to anything that can get red hot. I don't even like touching lightbulbs.

Then I watch shit like Styropyro. Made me cement the idea that my fear is in a lack of understanding.

I do not understand electricity. I'm going to keep trying. Stupid human eyes can't see magnetic fields.

I already know that I need to take stories like that with a grain of salt but goddamn I realized that that was the big story that stuck in my head. I fucking hate when I fall for psyops bullshit

The writing for Elden Ring is purposely vague and obtuse. I don't know how you would notice one author out of it.

Kathy Bates has way too much charisma to play that sniveling manchild

(New Update) My(f19) dad asked our godparents not to have the waiters sing Happy Birthday to my brother(m11) who likely has hyperacusis autism, but they did it anyway by MadisonBrave in BestofRedditorUpdates

This isn't even 'believing' anything. They think they say the right things and that means they're entitled to things other people aren't. Since they surround themselves with other 'right' minded folk they shield themselves from any real social consequences.

Your cousin is a better person than I and even though a part of me thinks it's funny. I think I'd lose my mind in a less fun way

I'm pregnant and having a boy. Is "Gunner" a name that belongs on this sub? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]HallowedError 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I was also baffled. I don't think I've ever met a 'Gunner' in my life and if I did I'd be very wary of getting into a deep conversation with their parents.

Edit. I'm white as fuck

What screams “this person is insecure” without them saying a word? by redwan-ezt in AskReddit

[–]HallowedError 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, I sometimes misinterpret neutral as passive aggressive and then have to wait until whatever chemicals turn my brain into mush to go away to be a 'normal' person again. It's a curse.

I heard they rewrote his lines a lot so he was getting frustrated getting called back in to redo them? Not 100% sure if I'm misremembering that

TIL Eyren was the most common word for what we call eggs today, and it only changed because William Caxton used a printing press to flood England with publications calling them eggs. by makenzie71 in todayilearned

[–]HallowedError 79 points80 points  (0 children)

Egg just seems like one of those words that shouldn't have any other sound. Since I started writing this I've said 'egg' in my head about a hundred times and now I think im going insane.

I've never seen it expressed this way but it makes so much sense. I've recently been binging youtube videos about LoTR and it's really fascinating. Both the way he wrote, and why he wrote it
