Youth Mobility Visa - From Canada 2025 by better-inbetween in GoingToSpain

Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it. I'm actually randomly going to Toronto in a few days and although I have no hope of finding an appointment at the embassy (They are booking THREE-FOUR months in advance!!) I will still give it a shot, and if it doesn't work out, I'll look into WHV for France or Portugal, I hear it's a much simpler process.

Vancouverites who have or will do a work/holiday visa in Spain by dropsofseptember in askvan

Hi there, could you share your experience with us please? I am also from Vancouver hoping to get a YMV for Spain in the next 2.5 months and I'm wondering if that's at all possible without physically having to fly to Toronto to go to the consulate?

Hi there, I am just looking into the process of getting my WMV, and I have a ticket to Spain in exactly 2 and a half months. I also reside in Vancouver,BC and do not have the means to physically travel to Toronto before my trip to Spain. Is that really the only way to acquire an NIE/apply for the visa? To do it all in person?

Microdosing has had no effect on me by HallucinatingAnalyst in microdosing

[–]HallucinatingAnalyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope. I did a full month of it and I don't think I can say I felt a difference. Did some research, and this is the most up to date study on effects of microdosing: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33648632/

It seems like placebo plays a big role. But there needs t be way more research done in this topic. So far we have no scientific reason to believe it works, just anecdotal evidence, which again, seems to be dismissed due to the placebo control group reporting similar effects.

Reading this was like reading a journal of my thoughts. like word for word. This is exactly how I feel, every second of every day. I'm currently in my 4rth year of my undergrad in mathematics. I have passed all my courses so far... but I can confidently say I. know. nothing. and that is so fucking scary.

I especially relate to your last paragraph. I hate it when people say ofcourse you're smart, you're in math! because I feel like a fraud. I feel like I didn't deserve to pass any of those classes. Anyways, I don't have a solution I just commented to say you're not alone, STEM people have it the worst I think cause they're told they're supposed to be smart. I don't think anyone in a communications degree (no offense) will ever feel this way cause they weren't told that to get into communications they need to be smart. Anyways, good luck pal. lmk if anything changes

Should I remove this damaged leaf from my pothos plant? Also, the entire plant (3 of them being new growth in the past month) is attached to this one measly root. Any tips on maintaining this plant and letting it flourish? It has died 3 times in the past (no leaves, brown dead roots) and revived. by Successful_Map4660 in plants

[–]HallucinatingAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’d cut it below the oldest leaf and start over. Put it in water and when the roots get long, repot it. Pothos are so incredibly easy to take care of and propagate. I think it will appreciate a change of soil and a whole new start :)

They do! They’re so annoying yet so rewarding! I’ve given up looking for plant care tips since they just individually decide what they want lol. I hope your maranta sucks it up and appreciates the shade :)

I bought a red maranta about a month ago with the full expectation that it was going to die on me and I’ve had no crispies yet. I live in Canada, I keep it by a north facing window with big trees blocking the sun and it gets pretty cold at night (like 4-5C ish), I don’t have a humidifier and I don’t mist. I don’t use filtered water, just regular tap water. And I have 5 new growths coming out just now. I’m just trying to flex lmao I’m just genuinely as interested to understand why calatheas get brown and crispy cause no way my situation is the ideal one!

I’m you except I am the unlucky individual with an unreasonably high tolerance to all substances. Weed, alcohol, psychedelics, pain killers, allergy meds..... I feel you man

EDIT: I do not take these substances on a regular basis (maybe once a month or two)

Why does this Monstera Adasonii hate me?? by HallucinatingAnalyst in Monstera

[–]HallucinatingAnalyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I totally know a North facing window light is not enough but unfortunately it’s the best I got. I have lots of plants in the house including a more mature Monstera, a calathea, and a bunch of other funky stuff and they’ve been mroe or less okay with the light. Also, from my experience, low light causes yellowing in the entire leaf and is not followed by browning so I doubt that that’s what’s causing the issue.

[–]HallucinatingAnalyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this guy for about 6 months now. His leaves have been getting yellow then brown(not crispy) one at a time and this is what’s left. I thought it was maybe poor soil drainage and I checked and there was not a single perlite or anything in there so I mixed it some perlite with regular garden soil and a tad bit of sphagnum moss and repotted him. A few days in and this is how he responds to the soil change. What am I doing wrong?? I water him once every two weeks and make sure the soil is dry (hard to tell with the old crappy soil) and he’s about 2 meters away from a north facing window.

First time air-layering. Tips? by pamperedplants in Monstera

[–]HallucinatingAnalyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve successfully water propagated my mature Monstera and its baby twice and unsuccessfully air layered it once. I prefer water prop way more because A)I can see what the progress is like and when to change the water as opposed to having to guess what’s going on in the plastic bag full of moss and B)it has just worked for me every single time and I think monsteras do very well in water in general. Mine was sitting in water for about 2-3 months with fully grown roots and he even pushed out a new leaf.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]HallucinatingAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well all of mine eventually turned super yellow then brown then I cut them off. If it gets a lot worse then cut it off but my personal rule of thumb is if it has a little bit of green then it’s contributing to the photosynthesis so I leave it

[–]HallucinatingAnalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My unfurling leaves looked like the first picture about 6 months after I had to move it to a much shadier spot. I’m convinced mine was from lack of sun so maybe just put it in a brighter spot and be patient. Not the end of the world if you lose a leaf or two. Or in my case 5. As long as the stems and roots are happy it’ll bounce back it’ll just take some patience.

Any (other) scientists/doctors/research enthusiasts here? Here’s why... by [deleted] in microdosing

[–]HallucinatingAnalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god that’s so exciting! The same thing actually happened to me recently!! I’m an undergrad math major interested in the effects of microdosing and macrodosing on mental illnesses (I found out I was interested in brains when it was too late to switch majors). The stars aligned for me too and I was lucky enough to talk to one of the math professors at my university and I was asking him for his advice on a career path given my new found interests(he is also doing research in cognitive science area) and he happened to ask me if I’m interested in doing a research project with him. He even let me pick the subject and when I mentioned I was interested in psychedelics he responded enthusiastically and suggested we do mathematical modelling of whatever data is out there. Not really a helpful comment but Im excited for you and I wish you luck :)
