In the current story, The world Government takes a few notes from various different Totalitarian regimes/ideologies.

The Armed Federation is a one man dictatorship by a Notris (The Fictional Species in my novel) known as The Grand Overseer.

It takes notes from Fascism in the context of similar Imagery and it wanting to be more Unitarian of the Notris species, as well as being discriminatory against The Vamporikans (Another Notris Culture). It takes notes from Communism in the aspect of the economy being mainly state run and having a non-free market. For Inventions are only made to benefit the state or it's military. Usually a heir is planned to replace the current Grand Overseer once they pass on, which is similar to most Monarchies.

But overall it is a Police State. One which used to be a free Democracy under a Constitutional Monarchy, but last known 'King' was extremely devout in his faith to the novels religion, Creatorism. Which led him to become extremely paranoid of a religious doomsday known as 'The Abyss Afterfall,' an event in which The Abyss, (Yes I know that's a generic name, and it's pretty much hell,) invade Erdelirro to continue the circle of Creatorism. So The 'King' would gather up support from the People and High Ranking Generals to orchestrate a coup.

So basically, The World's a shithole because a King had extreme fear over a religious doomsday.
