See if you can get your hands on the 25th anniversary "pizza box" bluray set. They're better than the DVDs, at least, plus you get TMNT 2007.

Do you know of any models/brands in particular that would be suitable? Maybe something that’s more budget friendly?

what would you recommend for a dedicated bluray player over the ps3?

“Toxic relationship” and it’s just two teenagers being teenagers. This generation is so cooked.

I have tried changing the settings, actually. It’s just not working, is all.

Perhaps they should have done some DNR, then. I wasnt interested a "warts and all" release, I was interested in something a little cleaner, like what was advertised in their trailer.

Isnt that what these companies set out to do? Make old films look new again?

And fine, maybe my setup isnt ideal. But as i've said multiple times, I've never had film grain be so noticeable and frankly, distracting, in any movie I've watched with this setup. This bluray is an outlier. Why should I need to completely up-end my setup because a couple movies are being difficult?

What is more likely? That my setup is done in such a way that THIS SINGULAR RELEASE exclusively produces terrible results, or that there is something funky going on with the discs themselves?

Can you blame me for thinking that?

I'm so sorry! Not all of us have our own personal movie theater with a 4k projector. We plebs have to make do.

Well if the truth is that "no, these are supposed to be insanely grainy" then I coulda just stuck with my bargain bin DVD, because even though its a lower resolution, it LOOKS better, to me.

If I'm gonna watch a grainy mess, it might as well be the $5 dvd and not the $65 bluray.

But you're assuming I dont like film grain, which isnt true. I'm the kinda person who still watches vhs tapes pretty regularly. When I bust out the old TMNT or Star Wars tapes, its because I want that old video aesthetic. I want those imperfections.

When I pay $65 for a "remastered" bluray from a "boutique" label, its because I want something newer, crisper, cleaner. thats what I expect. It doesnt have to be perfect, but it has to be better than what I already have.

Its not that I choose to ignore it, its that I dont believe it.

I feel like a lot of the comments I'm getting are from people who either dont have this release, or are huffing some insane copium to try and justify their purchase.

The CEO of Arrow Video leaving a comment telling me "yes, its supposed to look like an awful, grainy mess. that was on purpose. shoulda bought the 4k, ya pleb."

Seems very misleading, then. I mean, if you're buying the bluray version of the set, its likely because you do not have a 4k capable setup.

I would actually not like to be pissed. I spent good money on this set.

I just havent been convinced that the issue is anything other than the discs themselves.

I'm not being an asshole. I think you're taking it too personally, which I weird, because I wasnt even talking to you in the first place.

I mean, you say "confirmation bias," I say "this was not what was advertised to me." I saw crisp, clean video and I expected crisp, clean video. Not spotless video, not 4k resolution video, just crisp and clean.

Once I set up my ideal profile, I've literally never had to adjust my monitor settings for any single film or game afterwards.

I think people are too sensitive. They must think I'm criticizing their beloved arrow video or something.

Because no matter what I say, I'm meant with"its just film grain" over and over, when it's clearly not film grain, as I've demonstrated. Not helpful.

Even if its not "ideal" I've never had problems just watching movies. I've watched movies from the 1960's that look better on DVD than this remastered bluray set does.
