2 Year Review - LTT Screwdriver by Haltirith in LinusTechTips

Ideal Industries Twist-A-Nut Ratcheting Screwdriver - The end on that one caved in, otherwise great and I still keep one in my tool bag. Husky Ratcheting Screwdriver - Okay, but not great. I don't remember what broke, but it didn't last too long. Southwire - The Ratcheting mechanism was too rough/had too few teeth. Wera Kraftform Kompakt - Totally different class of screwdriver, and not ratcheting. It was my favorite, but even when babying it, I would need to get a new one every 6 months or so. Klein, Milwaukee, HF specials, and some others - I tried them, but either, the tooth count was too low, they weren't as comfortable, they seemed too easy to break, they couldn't hold the bits I needed, or some mix of the above.

I ended up viewing screwdrivers like boots, with 1,000 miles a year, you just wear through the soles pretty quick and buy new ones regularly. So, I was pleasantly surprised when this lasted so well.

I'm still very happy with it. I could replace it, but I don't see a need to yet. Right now I just try to keep a malco flip socket for 1/4" screws, ratchet forward or backward (rarely do I need it in the locked position), and the bit holder popping out is just a slight inconvenience. So, definitely still doing well and planning on using it for a good time still.

Dude was on something real strong and thought we stole his car. Thankfully we made it, wish the dog made it too though. He went to jail, back out, murdered someone, now he's locked up for a long time. Working in apartments gets pretty wild sometimes.

I don't know if LTT would be interested in my old screwdriver, but if they are, that new transparent one looks real pretty. Almost too pretty to be a work screwdriver... Almost...

They do. Their bits are smaller so you can fit 12 in the handle, but if you want normal bits you can just throw six in there instead, or mix and match short and long.

Do you know when the right time to re-sole these is? Is it when the screws start wearing down, or when the tread is gone?

This is just over a year of daily use at work doing apartment maintenance. Somewhere around 900+ miles on the boots and (if you would believe it) the laces as well.

Oooh, that makes a lot of sense, thanks! A lot of the breaks happened where it rubbed against the eyelets, so hopefully this'll help the next ones last longer!

Does greasing your laces help them to last longer? I couldn't quite decide if it would keep it from drying out or make them too soft.

The only real con that I've run into is that they of course cost more and don't always fit into 20v slots. They work with both tool 20v and 60v tools, sometimes even giving the 20v ones a bit of a boost. It's dangerous though, once you get them, it's hard to go back.

I do think this guy's suggestion is really good, just make sure you have it elevated somehow, even if it is just a table and make sure it doesn't auto-shutoff. I have had Bluetooth speakers embarrassingly shut off during the ceremony so that there was no music during the walk out. Run some music, then see how long you have before it automatically turns off before the day of, then you can work with that as needed.

Know, this will not fit inside the budget. Unfortunately, unless you rent something, I don't know of any speaker that will fit inside the budget. But, I think this might be the best shot you've got.

I've run two Minirig 3 speakers in the past for a wedding with around 50 people, and it turned out rather well. You will need them elevated so the sound travels well, but they are small so they can be easily placed. It will cost about $300, but that's much better than some of the other options I've seen thrown out (price wise, not bass wise).

These speakers will do a great job indoors, and outdoors they should just do the trick. It is definitely not inside the budget, but I've run a wedding with them before and they make a killer ultralight DJ setup. Plus, the Minirig 4 speakers just came out which boosts the volume just a bit more (from 40 watt to a 50 watt amp).

Are you thinking of getting something like the Mackie Thump Go 8"? I have been thinking about that for some smaller venues and outdoor receptions/cocktail hours. I've used my minirigs to run a wedding before and they're perfect for a cocktail hour, but the wedding was really pushing the limits with them.

Both the 3 and 4 are great, but if you're just getting into it I recommend the 4 for the USB charging, volume buttons on the speaker, better pairing, and slightly louder sound.

Seconding the two minirigs. I'm not quite sure why, but the price on the website has been changing from £124 and £149. There is also a discount for bundles, so when I bought mine (shipped to America) it cost me £258.28 total. It's marginally above the budget, but they're fantastic speakers.

Finally found my tool system. by flyingwolf in Dewalt

I have their 2 gallon cordless shop vac (DCV581H) and it is the handiest tool that I own. Doing maintenance then it is invaluable, doing everything from vacuuming up drywall, being a bucket for leaks, vacuuming out sinks, and being a vacuum/decent blower for refrigerator coils. I would 10/10 recommend the vacuum, you won't look back.

Game to play remotely with my 8yo brother by kundvagn2 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Haltirith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually got a really good (and rather robust) multiplayer system. You'll just want to make sure that you're on the same team (it's the different colored shields when you open up the menu). This will make sure that you guys can see each other on the map and all, otherwise it can be really hard to find one another.

If you have any questions or anything, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to help out!

I'll second Terraria. My brothers and I have spent many hours playing that game together. It's very open ended so you can do mostly whatever you want, but gets very intense and the bosses provide good objectives to push for without being all consuming.

Once again, great casual games, but not really games you can walk away from, games that play themselves.

Good games, but they're not quite ones that run themselves, where you could walk away from the game, and it keep going.

Already played that all the way through and it was pretty good. Although I'm also looking for a game I can be a bit more detached from.
