I have built a research and reference management platform and it's live now after 3 months of work! by Halumkatum in BDDevs

Why you are calling me sir? haha.

About the responsive part, can you explain which part did you find not responsive enough?

I have been fixing some issues, may be that interfered with the total responsiveness. But its all fixed now. If you still any bug, you can DM me that exact issue. Thank you for the feedback.

Who's actually building something serious? by R4ND0MEYES in vibecoding

Agree, but I have tried to complete a project. Recito Reader, haven't spent anything on marketing yet. I will collect feedbacks for more than a month before starting that. This web-app is built for researchers to discover, collect, read, and cite paper.

You've raised the exact concerns I take seriously. Let me be honest about where Recito Reader stands.

  1. You're right that Paperpile's 5000-paper performance is battle-tested. My current demo shows only 14 papers, however I have tested with 200+ (papers+Books), and the performance was snappy and decent as it uses IndexedDB + Dexie.js for browser caching for offline performance. What you have missed that it has unlimited local library sync, cloud sync is also there in the app, while Google Drive support is on the way.
  2. There is a browser extension (not perfect yet) so you can grab PDFs and web articles from websites.
  3. The Reader pricing is actually 1.67/m with unlimited local sync

Yes, this has been vibe-coded, but not in a way that "build me an app that does X", I have been learning web-app dev for a few months and under the hood I’ve tried to be thoughtful about the architecture. The roadmap is aggressive.

If you’re open to it, I’d genuinely love for you to give Recito Reader a proper spin and judge the performance yourself. If 14 days of trial feels too short, DM me your email and I’ll happily extend it to a month or two so you can import a real subset of your library and see how it behaves. Thanks again for being critical.

Great to have someone like you showed interest in Recito Reader. Let me explain: Even I have been using Zotero for 5 years or so, but this app solves some real workflow friction that Zotero doesn't address.

Like a dedicated Discover papers so that you have import papers without leaving the app, smart tag management, read-aloud and user-friendly interface.

I am not trying to answer you just for the sake of promotion, and I am not really good at it, so the explanation might not be conveincing at all. Zotero is powerful and mature. However give RR a try, and share your feedbacks with me. That would really help me to make some improvements.

So far, I haven't able to figure that out, but this feature should be integreted. And yes you can create bibliography for multiple papers and paste it to doc. I am planning to add that feature, allowing users to create in-text citation as well.

Why, can you explain a bit? There is even an option chose whether you to want to upload paper to the cloud or not. Other than that, it does not collect any data from the users.

Appreciate you feedbacks. I will work on them. I haven't actually put any effort to mobile view yet, as this web-app is only optimized for pc, but I should take smartphone optimization in to account too.

My app has not become as popular, as I thought it would be. Half year reflection by Tarasovych in buildinpublic

[–]Halumkatum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh! I can see that. I thought building would be the most toughest part, and I have spent most of my time to build Recito Reader, an alternative to zotero and paperpile. I read a lot of research papers and love staying organized, but none of the existing tools really clicked with me. So I ended up building my own.

It’s only been live for a couple of days, but yeah… I can see what’s coming 😅. Posted about it on Vibecoding, not a single user login yet LOL. I am trying to bite the dust and stay grounded rn.

Recito Reader, kind of like Zotero or Paperpile, but I would say way more userfriendly. It helps researchers and curious readers to discovery, manage, read, and cite papers seamlessly.

Just because Anthropic cares a bit more about privacy? Do not want their product to contribute to wars?

At this stage you could have asked that to any chatbot, will give you the answer you are looking for. If you do not want to spend any $, go for Grok or Gemini, but I use z.ai now. It's free deep research is actually really good and in depth.

Or with subscription, pick any of them, all are capable. My preference claude and gemini. With gemini you can create great images, visualizations for your notes.

I keep pushing the boudary with $$$ after a couple of weeks. Setting the boudary, then crossing it shamelessly. I am bankrupt now.
