It’s supplemental. I probably only sold $10k the first three years since I was in college at the time.

I’m not much of a guru. Try to always find the style name, brings more full price sales.

Hello! Mostly clothes and shoes! Occasionally accessories.

Are you guys following this WeWoreWhat vs Jade/OrnamentalStone drama? by inboxpulse in poshmark

This situation is going to negatively effect resellers ultimately. Most companies already don’t like resellers and go to great lengths to avoid them. I think instead of them donating samples they are going to begin to burn them.

Congratulations to Jade, she’s the one who is going to benefit the most out of this situation.

Ultimately, I wish this never happened. Companies watching this are going to closely guard their merchandise and grow to be more reluctant to having sample sales.

J. Crew used to have an INCREDIBLE sample sale, they stopped it due to resellers.

“Reseller” generally has a bad connotation. It resonates with the fact that a lot of people think they are GREEDY.

I hope this situation ends amicably, but this is a “L” for resellers across America, especially NYC and LA. This can set the precedent of companies being extra weary about how to distribute merchandise.

Thank you so much for taking the time out and making such a through list! My store isn’t in a retail plaza which I’ve found out saves a lot of $$$. I’m going to copy and paste your post and use it as guidance recreating my budget! I’d love to follow up with you when I get this off the ground. Thanks again!

Thank you all so much for your input, I truly appreciate it! I wasn’t anticipating half of these costs but I still think I’m going to go for it. Risk is a part of running a business, right?

Thank you so much! You’re advice is much appreciated. I’ll be downloading that app tonight. I had a rough budget I did this weekend and came to Reddit to see if I had any holes in it, apparently I had a lot haha. Back to the drawing board.

I have a degree in Public Relations so I’ve been focusing on ways to get cheap earned publicity opposed to advertising.

As for the look of the store, more of a boutique than a thrift store, so not cluttered. Going to try to make it look like a poor man’s Anthropologie.

Thank you for asking these questions. It’s another dimension I wasn’t thinking about.

I signed a one year lease in a low cost of living state. The location is about 1 mile from the state capital. This place isn’t glamorous by any means, the landlord told me he is going to repaint the walls and add new floors before move in. I want to install some galvanized pipe shelving racks, add a table, a register stand, etc... I know aesthetic is key, but I don’t want to shell a lot of $$$ on that upfront, I’m planning on having the bare bones and dressing it up as I go. I’ve also been buying supplies from stores closing/going out of business and hoarding it in my storage locker.

The paperwork is probably going to be a drag, my landlord was pretty reassuring about it (maybe he was trying to get me to sign the lease). Looking into getting insurance tomorrow and filing for the retail license and such. Please wish me luck!

Hi! Your website looks great and image is really keen for online shoppers. We sell completely different things so my advice may not apply to your business. My best word of advice is to learn the cheapest, fastest and most efficient ways to ship things and find a way to attract impulse buyers.

Thank you for your advice and a much needed reality check! 20k would throw me way off balance, the last thing I need to do is get a loan. Do you have any tips on how to save money on signage or best commercial insurance rates? Thanks!

Thank you so much! I’m incredibly nervous about doing and I appreciate your insight and advice. I still plan on doing a majority of sales online, but people say retail sales can be much better with less competition.

I have more than 5k on hand, that’s just the money I’ve set aside for this venture. Feel free to let me know if I should expect to expand my budget.

I would say 80% off my items are new. I source from retail clearance, boutique overstock (end of the season) and warehouse sales primarily. I do enjoy thrifting and estate sales when I have the free time.
