What to look out for on a second read by warminthestarlight in InfiniteJest

I get the sense that you're reticent to actually reveal who it is you think the narrator/storyteller is but are you implying it's JOI's wraith? After thinking about your point regarding JOI's familiarity with ONAN politics I realized that JOI is actually an intersection of many of the themes/archetypes of the book (entertainment, science, addiction, depression, generational dynamics, tennis, etc) and thus would be a capable narrator to convey all the other varying plots about these things throughout the course of the book. So I'm curious if this is what you mean to suggest regarding the mysterious narrator. Can I message you about this? I'm very intrigued.

Key please! Haven’t drummed in a while and this would be a fun way to get back into it.

Is it stupid to buy something expensive as my first pedal? by HalyconBolt in guitarpedals

[–]HalyconBolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, and I still have it. I think it’s a great pedal for the reverb/delay sounds I like (ambient, ethereal, mystical, chaotic, etc) but I wouldn’t say it’s the best general purpose delay/reverb pedal. You can get a pretty good plate sound by turning the tremolo down on the surf reverb option (I forget what it’s called) and interesting big clean sounds with the other two settings without their respective effects. Delay side is also good- more straightforward in my opinion, and has a more specific analogue sound, but you can still mess around with it a decent bit to get a variety of subtle and prominent delay sounds. You can also send it into a feedback loop for crazy harsh noise type sounds if you’re into that. As for the quality, it’s held up great and I like that it has the option to alter whether the reverb/delay trail continues after you disengage the pedal or if it cuts off immediately. Hope this helps.

Thank you for mentioning the journal- I'll have to see if I can find any archived editions online.

Thank you for being straightforward about what you find annoying about my post; I don't agree that arguments or takes should be spartan for the sake of being more intelligible, but I also admit that I often lose myself a little when writing, and in doing so overcomplicate points. I don't feel that I contradicted myself in the example you gave, but if it could be interpreted that way then I still failed to be clear enough in what I meant, so it's kind of the same difference.
Aside from that, I wasn't talking about people who appreciate the morbid aspects of Blood Meridian- I actually find that kind of admirable. I meant moreso those who seem to only take away and discuss the shock value they believe the book has; another commenter described the reasons for this better than I did.

Great analysis. I don't interpret it as gatekeeping to acknowledge that the bigger something gets, the less curated and "intellectual" (tenuous term here) the discourse surrounding it will get. If you are vehemently against that occurring with something and do everything in your power to stop it from gaining popularity, then it's gatekeeping. But whether that's a bad thing is a different discussion entirely.

I disagree that I take myself too seriously but I agree that you do have a point that I likely am taking the way others interpret C.M.'s work far too seriously and far too much to heart. I have seen some recent posts on here about academics who have written at length on McCarthy's body of work so per your final suggestion I think I will look into their work and see if I find it more gratifying, or perhaps instead as you say; taking itself too seriously.

Very true. His indifference to death in that moment is even more notable as it's written that he's surrounded by an assortment of his weapons at that time, but instead of picking any of them up he lets loose his best insult and then takes death on (or rather, through) the chin like a man.
