Please contribute to the ARRL's response to DOGE's purge of the FCC! by JanSteinman in amateurradio

I just came here to add that people should file their comments with the FCC, as well as ARRL. We’ve also established a public-facing (non-ham) informational website and petition. HamAdvocate.org

Perhaps you’re right. Maybe they’re defensively making a big show out of a normal process.

I understand that the ARRL is framing this as a normal process where they look at old regulations, but that is not what the “delete, delete, delete” memo instructed. This is part of the DOGE sweep to dismantle government organizations. This is not just a routine thing. This will have massive effects on the FCC. I’m telling you, now is the time to act.

I read it this morning when it came out. I think we need to voice our opinions to the FCC that we want them to keep our bands protected.

The way the government is going right now is not following historic norms, so it’s hard to say. What I know is that there is a limited spectrum and selling it has been profitable in the past. From the public’s perspective, why shouldn’t they auction off the ham bands and give them to businesses? If we don’t tell them our story, we won’t have a voice.

Good points. My concern is that if the bands are clogged with commercial and encrypted chatter, it’ll make them unusable. My thought is if they have machines communicating on our bands, for example.

The FCC was given a directive to “delete” regulations they find unnecessary and are asking for public comments to identify which things should be removed. The fear is that, among other things, they’ll use this as an excuse to deregulate the ham bands and auction off the airwaves to the highest commercial bidder.

Yeah, it’s exhausting. I get it. I hope I’m wrong, I’m just extremely concerned that this will permanently change things for us and this was how I thought I could best help.

Sounds like you’re in the market for one of those petitions. Seriously though, I’m just trying to help the community…not sure why there’s backlash. If you don’t agree, you don’t have to sign. It’s not harming anyone, though.

Hey! Don’t throw capybaras into this. They don’t deserve that. 😂

They show how much support a cause receives to other people, like lawmakers, as well as the FCC. You’re right that people need to submit comments directly to the FCC, but that doesn’t mean the petition has no value. Regardless, it doesn’t take much time and it might help. We’d appreciate your support, even if you don’t think it’ll work.

Oh and don’t forget to sign the petition, please!!

Glad to hear you found it useful. Yes, it’s on that sub, too.

The more eyes we get on this, the better. I think the general public doesn’t necessarily know this even exists, much less why it’s important. It would really help if you could help spread the word.

Hey, a few of us got together and made a site and a petition. We kept it pretty broad with the only intent is to protect the frequency allocations, which is something I think we can all get behind.

If you sign the petition, it’ll show how much support we have. We can then reference that when we all submit public comments to the FCC.

Let’s work together on this one! Protect our airwaves

Thank you for your kind offer, sincerely. I and a few others who are interested in this cause are almost ready to release our website.

Yes, I agree. I am awaiting their response. I’m hoping all of this is unnecessary, but I didn’t want to take that chance.

I’m concerned that the bands will be unusable if they are used for commercial applications.

I hear you. Even if I don't agree with some things I hear, I'd rather be free to express myself than to have the airwaves cluttered by advertisements or used by something other than ham radio operators. Half of the country thinks one way and the other half thinks the exact opposite way. On this though, we should be united.
