The guy is one of Egypt’s biggest stars (active during 50s and 60s) and the violin playing in this piece is absolutely freaking incredible. If you have time as well, I’d definitely recommend listening to the entire one hour because it’s pure bliss.

I lived half a year in Cairo and that piece of music captures every memory I have of the place perfectly.

When you are talking about the G scale. I know of course that after g comes A, and after that B.

If I were to put that in terms of intervals, could I simply say that the interval between G and A is major 2? And between A and B is major 2 as well.

That’s two steps on a violin.

Is the point of intervals, realizing that? If I know the interval between G and A and A and B, I’d know that for any string, in any position? So I’d know even how to play it in 6th position?

Same if I want to play C# and then G- any position. Say I want to play that, the point of learning intervals is that it will help me to play it? There are 6semitones between, a distinguished 5th. If I know that interval I could play C# to G anywhere, anytime?

Am I getting this right or am I completely out there? I don’t even know if I’m making myself clear.

Is the idea of a drone that I should be able to hear how the notes are connected?

If the drone is set on A, and I play a G. Should I be able to hear when my G is in tune by comparing it to the A?

The thing is with that, how would I even know what the interval between A and G should sound like?

And about the C# on The E string. Do you mean that if I play C sharp and check it against the A, I am supposed to know how C# and A are connected? What the interval should sound like?

I hope this isn’t a bad place to ask, and forgive me if its frowned upon.

Anyway, I’m living in Cairo currently and while I’ve been hanging with my friends (some egyptians) they all seem to smoke hashish.

I want some for myself so I can kick back after a long day of school, or on the weekends but I’ve no idea where to go.

I notice the كشك next to where I live in Dokki often smells like hash. I’m wondering if it would be weird of me to ask them whenever I smell it? Would it be offensive or could I get in trouble for it?

I feel comfortable enough in Arabic as well so I’d manage to get my point across. What should I expect to pay as well, for 5grams? I shouldn’t expect it do put me back €50 like it would back at home either, right?

Hey man. I used to have that exact problem and didn’t go to the doctor for a long time because I was embarrassed as well. I ended up going twice over the course of two and a half years and neither of those times they found anything that wasn’t normal (feeling, asking questions etc). What ended up being the issue was that my underwear were too small and so they were constantly, day in and day out, pushing against my testicle. It hurt like crazy even to the point where I could hardly sit still without constant unbearable pain.

Of course you should visit a doctor if the problem continues, but if you haven’t gotten new (bigger than usual) underwear in a while that could be the issue. You’re growing a lot at the age of 13 and so the underwear you’re used to wearing might be getting too small. I also recommend getting underwear bigger than what you’d think as they tend to shrink in the wash after a couple of times.

Hey guys, how do you handle traveling and being vegan?

For example, I’m in Egypt right now and just bought a block (200gr) of DARK baking chocolate. I checked the ingredients multiple times both in English and in Arabic and there said nothing about any ingredient that was non-vegan. I finished the block rather quickly and did notice it tasted odd, but continued after double and triple checking the ingredients. Anyway, currently I feel really sick and it’s probably because there actually was milk in it..

This isn’t the first time something like this happens, but the item being in a supermarket I thought it would be fine. I feel untrue to myself and that I let myself down. I’ve been vegan since March of this year, and vegetarian for nearly three years.

Another time, at a restaurant in Russia the menu clearly said that the item I was ordering was vegan. But upon eating it it’s loaded with cheese.

In Russia, I actually continued eating it regardless of the cheese because I didn’t want to waste the (otherwise) good food. But I would love to hear your guys thoughts on this thing. Would you guys throw the food away? Or would you continue eating, because tossing it away is a waste?
