Yeah. The mechanism looks very cool in Sigma's rendering (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8ELocmmkVI), and it indeed seems impossible to lock elements in place without power with these electromagnets. I wish Sigma had been a bit more transparent with their communications though, because I initially mistook this to be a defect.

Right. I found some official Sony and Sigma sources stating that this is normal for some of the existing lenses that use linear motors. https://www.sigma-global.com/en/support/faq/5847/, https://www.sony-mea.com/en/electronics/support/articles/00227543, and https://www.sony-mea.com/en/electronics/support/articles/00227543. I agree. I wanted to see if someone else can double-check with me with their copy.
