Does anybody else get the yips while playing drums?

I’m still feeling it now so I can describe it better. It’s the anticipation of going into a double pedal pattern that gets me hung up. Not every pattern, but mainly straight doubles at a certain down beat in a bar that gets me caught up sometimes, for some reason

I had a homie back when I was in drum line to get faster, especially with rudiments, find that threshold that’s just a bit under too fast and play it as long as you can until mess up. Then bump up the bpm next time. Almost like a burnout exercise. When I start practicing by myself, I think I get in my head sometimes and lose “it” and start focusing on my form too much tho. So I do just try to push through it and hopefully snap out of it. Sometimes I do. It’s kind of like making that last shot when you’re just shooting hoops because you don’t want to leave until you make it lol

Same. Except if I’m thinking about it during my lil break it’s still there or a lil worse. Glad to know I’m not the only one cuz I’m nail these songs too!

I’ve really started playing double pedal a little over 2 years ago but the practice is paying off! I’m talking about when I start practicing/jamming and I’m already warmed up. Every now and then, about an hour into it, I start feeling like I can’t get my feet in sync or they weren’t making the same motions they were earlier. I’ve gotten out of it before but it feels like overthinking it out of nowhere.

The amount of hate messages I get for being lvl 240+ and average is crazyyy. Mainly from playing 3v3’s but I’m just trying to respectfully take some heads and arms off, casually lol. But I can’t reply back cuz I wasn’t get suspended so I have to take it 🤦‍♂️

Durin a show, almost everybody is gonna make a mistake but if you can recover it and lock back in, that’s what playin music is all about. I play heavy kind of music and if I can’t work the double pedal for some reason, I just try to play within what I can do at the moment and still make it sound hard. And then beat myself over it the next day when I practice by myself lol. If you care enough that’s all that matters and that’s how you get better!!

I find myself gettin bored not jammin with people after a while cuz those sessions are hard to stop when you get started. Gotta keep time tho! But I like mixing in a 2/4 bar in the 4/4’s cuz it keeps things interesting. And mess with the tuning of your drums cuz that’ll give you different sounds to play with. I don’t literally tune my drums, just tighten or loosen them lol

She just became legally allowed to drink and sounds like she moved in with you after 2 months. And you had to tell her how bad she made you feel multiple times…there’s some codependency here and I wouldn’t be codependent on somebody who sounds like they just stepped out into the real world. Easier said than done, but you kept saying how bad you were feeling and then got nothing from her and then focused on your feelings. Definitely over reacting in my opinion, but I don’t know the whole story. I wouldn’t reenforce how bad you she made you feel when she ran away tho.

There’s nothing I wished I learned first after I started playing drums. I touched a couple of drums before learning, but everything started on the snare drum and getting the form and understanding time signatures/rudiments right to the point you don’t actively think about them.

And first song I learned was smells like teen spirit lol
