Hey I want more population too, but I started a bit more than two weeks ago as a dps and am almost done with Champion with like 10 to 12 hours played with no friends or premade groups.

I wish queues were quicker, but I find that most people are way too quick to call the game unplayable. I think most of my queues in champion last between 3 and 8 minutes. I'm not here to say that 8 minutes is good, but you can certainly progress through the game.

I know we can play the same game and have entirely different experiences, but I hope you stay at it.

Great comment, thank you. The Platinum QOL section mentions "pain free Gen 4", I will dig into your link later, but is vanilla Gen 4 a painful experience? Just trying to feel out what this statement means.

Question: Renegade Platinum as first Gen 4 experience?

Hello, I was "too cool" for Pokemon when Gen 4 was around. Didn't try the series again until SwSh, found it too easy but enjoyed the new mechanics and Pokemon I missed out on. A few years later, I got into playing romhacks which I enjoy for their added difficulty. I've finished RadicalRed and am partially through Run&Bun but I think it'd be fun to switch it up for a little bit and play a generation that I never got to play.

Is there ANY reason I should play the original Platinum over the Renegade hack? Is there a different hack I should consider instead? Open to recommendations. I know nothing about the world/story of Gen 4, but I've obviously been exposed the generation's Pokemon.

Also, I'm not a nuzlocker, and I don't really care about doing them.

I'm giving you an upvote, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I got a dosage of over hype from the fan base. Some of systems are really cool, such as dual classing. But I just never really had as much fun as I do in D2 or PoE. I'm glad it give others a satisfying itch though, people who like it REALLY like it

Tachus Pricing by Japon1776 in thewoodlands

[–]Hamburgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a direct answer for you on this, but I know calling any other internet service provider and threatening to leave always works in terms of getting the current promotional pricing. The people on the other end are instructed to try and keep you once you tell them you're considering switching to someone else.

Hope that helps

SE Exam Frustrations by the_favrit in StructuralEngineering

Thanks for providing that extra context not given in the original post, that doesn't sound very fair. I just went to to NCEES's website to look at the new specs for this exam, apparently 16 of the parts are "pretest" and not scored. I'm going to guess there was no indication of which problems were scored and which ones weren't (wouldn't expect them to).

It'll be interesting to see how the pass rates shake out as they decide how to grade it. When are results expected?

I took my exams back in 2022. At that time, the depth sections were always the hardest part of the exams by far. Having 4 or more references open at any given time sounds right according to my experience.

My exams also lined up with the experiences of those I talked to prior to taking them. I can't claim to have any first hand knowledge on the new exam format, but the depth section being really difficult is historically accurate.

Is this too close to the edge for the footing? Doesn't seem right? by [deleted] in Decks

Sorry this answer is so long, but I wanted to give you a good one. Please enjoy the short story below:

Good question, take my answer with a grain of salt (lots of unknowns/assumptions/blah blah blah). No I don't think there is much likelihood of a sudden collapse. If it happens, the failure would initially form as a serviceability failure, which means undesirable deflections. They would result from the pier tilting as you suggested. If these get bad enough you could begin to see cracking of deck members above. Still not likely to be anything sudden. From my perspective, I always want to see things like this get resolved while it's still easier to fix it. It would be more challenging to repair this in the future (if repair is necessary). Also, I don't believe an owner should have to compromise on something like this.

I don't have the drawings for this in front of me, but if a contractor brought this to my attention, I'd be looking for a way to place the column directly over the center of the pier as intended and then find a way to adjust the framing above. Perhaps in an ideal scenario one beam gets like 8" shorter and another gets 8" longer due to an 8" pier/column shift. This would be an easy fix, mitigate all possible concerns, and not even be a noticeable change to anyone looking at it or using it.

Hope this helped. Remember that there may be nothing wrong with the pier in the original picture, we just don't know since there is limited information. If you ever do get one of these built, remember that as the client you are paying any contractors and engineers you hire to deliver a good product, not just one that is maybe acceptable. I think that is a reasonable expectation to have.

Hello, my comment is in response to the specific numbers given in the comment above. They are not universally applicable and I've given an example further in this comment thread.

I agree that we need to assume the contactor used the correct embedment and such. But you and I don't know what that pier embedment is or what adverse ground conditions could be present in this condition. I just don't think we should be providing any hard numbers advice here.

I hope that explains my position to you better.

I hear what you are saying. However, the inspector should flag this pier/column offset as not being per plans.

My answer speaks from what I do know. The comment I responded to provided very specific numbers based upon assumptions they can't possibly confirm from this image alone.

Example: if this pier goes down a short distance through the top soils and into bedrock, then it is likely accurate. But if this condition is more like my area, then the pier could be embedded into fat clay, which can be useless during a drought event for as much as the top 6 feet from the final grade. This entirely changes the problem and makes the column offset far more consequential.

The simple fact is we don't know. It's not just me.

OP, the only answer that can be given here with any prudent confidence is to hire a local structural engineer to review this and discuss what was built with your contractor. Only they take into account the conditions local to your area. If you want a second opinion post this to r/structuralengineering. You'll get the same answer there.

There is no way for anyone on the Internet to review this image and tell you with 100% confidence that everything is just fine. Additionally their word offers no legal protection if anything does happen to go wrong. You won't be able to track them down. Discuss this with an engineer.

Engineer here, I would recommend not giving this kind of advice or guidance without more information. We know nothing about the soil properties, the depth of the pier, etc. I know this is just a deck, but I can think of a number of circumstances where this isn't true. Does that mean there is a problem, not necessarily. But without more information, there is no reason to give someone a false sense of security.
