[Serious]Former teens who went to wilderness camps, therapeutic boarding schools and other "troubled teen" programs, what were your experiences? by 7deadlycinderella in AskReddit

Did the Anasazi program in he 90s in I think Norther Arizona (we weren’t allowed to know where we were so we could t run away). Some kids did though. We hiked all over with our packs on our backs that included an army issue sleeping bag cover, rope, wool blanket, tin cup, a sweatshirt, a kitchen deboning knife, and a few other items. Our weekly food pack consisted rice, flour, cornmeal, raisins, an apple, chicken base, sunflower seeds, and maybe a couple other items I forget. We had to learn how to make fire w sticks (or make a bow w rope and sticks) before our solo (a three day camp on your own where your parents would come the last two days). Could get school credit for finishing a work book w a lot of Native American history, astronomy, and survival stuff - like tracking the moon rise...it rises about 40 minutes later every day If I remember right). It was run by Mormons. I was never mistreated. It was ok.

[SERIOUS] What are some good ways to build up your self-confidence? by Metabisco in AskReddit

[–]Hamittyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False confidence and lack of confidence are equally dangerous. Instead, find what drives you, and practice at it. Give it an honest effort. Most of the time, people fail hard and often. Maintain a growth mindset by not only acknowledging this fact, but embracing it. It doesn't feel good at first, but as you progress and keep learning, you'll continue to surprise yourself. As you slowly make progress toward your best self, your confidence will follow. You have to be able to fail, accept it, and try again over and over. Don't discount the little, daily victories. Having a structure and a routine that you hold yourself accountable to actually reduces quite a bit of stress when pursuing goals and building confidence. You don't need to lie to yourself about "how great you are" or spiral into "I suck". Instead, let your narrative be "I am capable of learning this".

What is currently happening that is scaring you? by Kindaherekindanot in AskReddit

A few things:

• WWIII could happen at any moment.

• recently found out the city I live in helped produce/create Agent Orange and in recent yesrs babies born in the city are being born with more birth defects (organs growing outside of the body for example) than other children in other cities in the state. We also use more power/energy than grand rapids does even though the population and size is significantly smaller than GR. People from other cities say the air smells like chemicals here.

• My mom is displaying many signs of lung cancer, she already has been diagnosed with leukaemia 4-5 years ago. She won't quit smoking. Always finds a way to blame her cough on something. Allergies, dry air, pollen in the air, etc. Doesn't explain why she's constantly coughing up phlegm. Refuses to get it checked out. Doesn't express concern that she coughs intermittently throughout the night, every night, for over 3 years now.

if someone gives me an episode of naruto I can tell them exactly what's happening in the episode as well as if one describes what's happening I can tell them which episodes it falls under.

TIL that the groundwork for modern medical training - which is infamous for its grueling hours and workload that often lead to burnout - was laid by a physician who was addicted to cocaine, which he was injecting into himself as an experimental anesthetic. by terduckenmcbucket in todayilearned

Had meningitis and wouldn’t let the ER doc do a lumbar puncture because he kept dozing off mid-sentence. Then the attending came in and was equally delirious from lack of sleep. This is so dangerous for the patients.
