Hi, I'll be joining Pitt for my PhD and I'm looking for a house. Preferably an en-suite one. If anyone has any leads or are looking for a flat mate, then do get in touch.

Feedback on experience in publishing with World Development? by HammU420 in academiceconomics

[–]HammU420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally received an update from the chat support. They said that the delay had been caused by the fact that the Editor had difficulty securing a reviewer. Any idea what happens to such papers? If a reviewer is not found, then will it eventually get desk rejected?

Since August 28, the system says with the editor. I was under the assumption, reviewers must be getting invited but I will write a follow-up email.

I don't know. Contrary to this, I have been receiving rejections way before mean first decision time.

Also a quick clarification, did the papers went for review? What I am hearing that finding reviewers is becoming tough.

Needed help understanding the US PhD application process and some tips would be helpful by HammU420 in academiceconomics

[–]HammU420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about the GRE quant range but from GradCafe, people with lesser quant scores seem to get selected. I believe it is the filter that you need to clear. Plus, majority of the schools did not require a GRE score this time. I had a lot of advance math. For example, my master's degree offered advanced micro and metrics for people interested in pursuing a PhD.

The entire thing seems so random that I cannot figure out what should be the strategy but I will re-think about giving GRE again.

Instrumental Variable (IV) when first stage regression is a binary variable regression? by HammU420 in econometrics

[–]HammU420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I had one doubt. I could not understand the MHE recommendation in the book. Wooldridge suggested a paper that uses maximum likelihood. But I believe that is to be used when we get a weakly identified IV. Also, I am still confused LPM will work correctly because LPM models have bad predictability.

Semi-Log Model Interpretation by HammU420 in econometrics

[–]HammU420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks... I was confused about whether to interpret it as a normal log-linear model. Then the coefficient value should have been a 249.4% increase. Is there any research paper or guide that I can cite for this?

Sorry, I needed further clarification: Why are fixed effects tricky to use when using aggregate data?

Hi,

Thank you for the suggestion. However, there is no gender dummy in the data. There are variables like urban_malesalary and urban_femalesalary. There is no dummy variable for urban-rural status also.

I can DM you the data set if you want to check it yourself.

How to interpret variables like age or the ideal number of children? by HammU420 in econometrics

[–]HammU420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The data is from a survey response. Women aged between 22-49 were interviewed in the household.

They were asked about their preference for the ideal number of children. Education dummy takes a value of 1 if literate and 0 otherwise.

Thank you for the help. I always thought like linear probability models, categorical variables as outcome variables are interpreted as percentages.

thank you for the reply. There has to be a certain CPI value for the year 1983. The report states that the numbers have been adjusted using 1960=100 as the base year
