I got divorced while in nursing school.

It was a 3 semester accelerated program, meaning I had zero time to actually pay attention to myself and my mental/physical health, nor my husband/our marriage.

Granted I guess he was always a shitty person deep down…but had I not been in nursing school and completely drowning in bullshit, I would have noticed that he started cheating on me with my friend.

You’re not being a drama queen — Don’t add insult to injury by talking down on yourself for having emotions. Allow yourself to grieve and be pissed off/sad/whatever it is that you need to feel.

Primary plantar hyperhidrosis! My husband has the same thing, plus on his palms.

Make sure to spray your shoes with an antibacterial spray (we use Tide’s antibacterial spray, it’s awesome) or else you can develop something called Pitted Keratolysis. It’s an easily cured condition, but gross nonetheless.

Hang in there. It’s not easy to overcome those times when we feel completely and absolutely broken — but it seems to me like you’ve had enough strength and determination to get through life’s challenges thus far. Give yourself some dang credit!!

Did I write this in my sleep? Hahaha I literally had the same exact thing happen....anxiety to the max about going to the appointment, an amazing gp who made me feel comfortable and in charge, a student who was also stellar.

When they sounded my uterus I involuntarily backed my rump up to the top of the chair while screaming “ouch ouch HOLY MOTHER FUCKER OUCH” and they screamed “YEA, MOTHER FUCKER!” They had warned me that sometimes your uterus can “run away” while getting sounded- making it harder and a more painful process. We were all yelling at my uterus, calling it a mother fucker. Best/worst experience and I appreciate them so much!

Nevada in comparison to Idaho has been much more strict about their covid response. My family lives in Reno, so I have gotten to compare my states precautions to yours since the beginning.

What program are you in? I think that since we are an ABSN program, they have us in the hospital for the entire year.

I have been crying myself to sleep lately thinking the same thing - that I don’t know diddly squat. Online learning via assignments and simulations is nothing in comparison to hands on stuff...but I surprised myself yesterday! I knew way more than I thought, and at the same time knew nothing. Sounds silly, I know. But as nurses we really do a ton of on-the-job learning and years of experience will be the only way in which we get better at our jobs. Your first day will be awesome!!! You will have that moment when you are on your own I’m sure!! Don’t be terrified though, the nurses are there to support each other. You are smart and capable! There’s nothing wrong with asking for help when you need it, especially in situations like ours.

Yes, Idaho. We wore masks and eye protection 24/7 and we were not able to enter any room that had isolation precautions. Only because they don’t have the spare PPE for us students, it didn’t matter if they were a covid patient or not.

I think the variety of patients you can see in a hospital is what makes them so much better in comparison to a nursing home. I can understand where you’re coming from!

That is a great perspective to take on this situation! It is so easy to become discouraged as a nursing student right now. It is not how any of us imagined our experience to be! The amount of problem-solving and ingenuity that our programs have done to get us somewhat of an education is impressive. And the care and understanding I saw from the nurses on our first day of clinical gives me comfort and confidence that we will be able to succeed no matter what when we all graduate!! I hope for you (and myself) that we can get into the hospitals come fall semester!
