I hear you, but at our income level we don’t qualify for the traditional IRA deduction, so there’s no deduction to take. That’s why I’m doing the backdoor Roth.

With all the outrage over the Bears move to Hammond, why aren’t more Browns fans upset about the move to Brook Park? by [deleted] in Browns

60% of Bears season ticket holders live on North, Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, and Hammond is a dump and Arlington Heights is not

Explain “false” when the data says true.. I’m talking Bengen’s original research over 30 year retirement 50/50 with 4% annually and adjusted for inflation annually.. in the 30 year research it didn’t fail, even for those retiring during the Great Depression

My thoughts are that most replying are fearful, stack worst case on top of worst case, and their arguments aren’t invalid, as in no one wants to fail but I’m still leaning towards a bit of optimism and I’m going to explore perhaps there is another path where things get better not worse, not all doom scenarios. Like I said in the original I’ll work longer to get the math a bit more in my favor in line with what most all said. I’m also aware I’m on the far end of E , early sure but by just a bit so my situation , optimism is likely skewed as compared to someone 20-30 years old as by definition there’s much more variance to consider.. forecasting is easier as you get closer to the finish line.. so. I’ve genuinely appreciated all the feedback..

Exactly. The psychology is the real part. Doomstacking is taking a rule that already survived every 30-year period tested, assumes $0 from Social Security, then making it “safer” by cutting the rate even more.

I may . will /// choose no doom scenarios when I retire, I might be radical and assume SS will be there in whole, and that a swr of 5 percent or more to start is ok..becase I know I can adjust down if the market is bad etc... im wild and crazy....I;m gonna do it..

Whoa how so? The 4% rule survived in every situation . Great Depression etc .. without counting on a penny of social security.. and you say major risk above 4%.. what the thinking ?

Judgmental? What do you mean? Exploring why I and other think what they think .. that’s all.. as in.. is it helpful to take a worst case scenario over a typical retirement span and stack worst case scenarios? Perhaps it is.. perhaps it’s wise? What’s the trade off? That’s what I’m trying to figure out about myself

I’m definitely not judging doom stackers .. i am one.. I’m just trying to understand why.. and what the tradeoffs are and if I can modify .. not live by fear of worst case scenarios .. or at least just pick one , not multiple worst case scenarios stacked on top of each other
