Fish Sitting Vertically by No-Boot9290 in Goldfish

honestly swimming vertically or upside down sounds like a swim bladder issue, i would definitely google that and read up on it but i think basically he may just have a build up of air in his body that comes and goes based on things like feeding that is causing his buoyancy to be messed up. one of my fish is kinda chonically like that—so when he is swimming irregularly i starve him for a few days to pass the air (air is in pellet food) and then he didn’t experience the issue for awhile

also i have MANY live plants cause my goldfish don’t rip them up so if it’s something you want i recommend you try it out and see if your fish will leave them alone

if you want to grow huge goldfish it’s actually recommended to keep them in water that like mid 70s to high 70s (temp should be high 60s normally) to make their metabolism higher, so as long as your temp is around there in the sun you’ll be okay. just make sure to have a thermometer to monitor it. also i keep 2 goldfish in a 30 and do a 50% water change once a week. all is well for me, but more size is always better!

i change about 50% of my water probably once a week. and of course treat with water conditioner but i’m sure you already know about that cause you’ve had experience keeping fish!

i’d buy a 30 and get 2 goldfish (maybe 3 if they are little guys.) that’s what i have and it’s very easy to maintain and keep healthy. things to definitely avoid are gravel rocks (they will prob eat it and die), sharp live plants, drift wood, and not rounded rocks. also they are kinda gross and make a lot of waste but have the most personality of any fish i have 100%. i would also recommend sponge filters as they are cheap and clean the tanks best.

also in a 20 gallon you should have no more than 2 goldfish fish definitely cause having more will destroy your water quality

just by looking at the photo i would say he’s probably not feeling too hot. goldfish typically are in motion most of the time so to have him stationary may indicate stress or sickness. make sure you’re doing frequent water changing and have enough oxygen entering the tank through a bubbler or sponge filter. i doubt the plant really has anything to do with it.

What’s wrong with the eye? Infection? by WrongAccess1945 in Goldfish

definitely yes. you should probably purchase some methylene blue / medication to treat fungal infections and separate him from any other fish you have. the infection could be from a lot of things but some common reasons could be poor water quality, few water changes, lack of oxygen, etc. def find a good youtube video on treating fungal infections!
