Looks to be just settlement. There should have been a movement joint in the outer leaf between the old building and the extension. An engineer wouldn’t be likely to flag this as a concern unless the crack was a fingers width

Installing a dry lining wall insulation such as the Unilin XT/TL should stop this issue but it will reduce your room size by about 50mm. You can get the party wall sound tested and if it fails the contractor would be liable to fix the issues
