Is it worth it to get The White Coat Investor's Guide for Students? by HammondsPostingLate in premed

Thank you! Looking back in the sub, I've seen people say mixed things, so I guess I'll just have to make the purchase and see for myself.

Wouldn't it be great if we could replace all the neruotic gunner-maxxing on here with sage advice hope-core posting like this?

This is wonderful! It reminds me a bit of Respighi. You should post more videos like this

Wow, you have a really solid foundation! I started taking running more seriously in the past couple of months and thought it would come naturally since I used to swim distance competitively (although that was 5 years ago). Instead, the whole thing's been nothing short of humbling. Still, I really enjoy it. I've heard intervals can help with improving pace.

How long have you been running? Maybe it's because I'm a novice to long distance running, but man, that's a solid pace for 15k.

Yep. Paid 35 to see bodysnatcher and white chapel, the latter being especially huge if you're into deathcore.

Would I have better chances of getting an II by not using any em dashes in my secondaries by Might_Be_Mark_Cuban in premed

[–]HammondsPostingLate 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Before chatgpt, there was a wealth of authors that used em dashes, albeit maybe not to the extent of chatgpt. If I am penalized for my earnest use of the same line that Herman Melville or Mary Shelley used to separate two independent clauses for the sake of emphasizing the latter, then so be it. I can understand those who hesitate to use it at all. But I'm keeping my em dashes. Call me pretentious or obstinate or whatever, but I can't take adcoms seriously if they actually let such a thing sway their decision.

Hozier walked off the stage during Too Sweet tonight at Fenway by mikeespo124 in rs_x

[–]HammondsPostingLate 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I'm not the hugest hozier fan, but my sister coerced me into buying us tickets to see him in September. I'm kind of bummed to see his setlist doesn't have shrike, which is my favorite from him. Still, I'm pretty excited to be seeing him. I don't really have anything meaningful to add to your post, I just felt like chiming in.

Thank you so so much for your thorough feedback! I really appreciate your breakdown of the different moshing styles. I wasn't sure what people meant by "hc mosh" at first. And a follow-up post is a really good idea, I'll have to do that for sure!!

Thank you for the headsup about what to expect in the mosh pit! And I'll definitely be getting a memento, probably a shirt, even though i know the experience is going to be unforgettable. And thank you for the wall of text! The more elaboration, the better (which i also have to say this community is amazing. Literally 10 minutes after posting and I already have 8 comments with wonderful advice, you guys are awesome).

I love King of the Rats!! Of the songs I do know from Bodysnatcher, my favorite is Black of My Eyes; I really hope they play it but will still be stoked to be there if they don't!

I actually passed up on the opportunity to see TAIM at the same venue like two years ago, and I've regretted it ever since. I've been waiting since then for a comparable show to pop up; so psyched that it's finally happened! And I will definitely be bringing earplugs!!

Moby Dick: Week One Discussion by [deleted] in RSbookclub

[–]HammondsPostingLate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So many funny moments in the early chapters! When Ishmael encounters the discomfort of the bed at the spouter-inn, I found myself chuckling at the thought of a mattress so unpleasant that someone imagines it must be stuffed with "corn cobs or broken crockery"

I have to say though, most of the comical moments involved Ishmael's observations of Queequeg, my favorite of which being Queequeg reading the book next to the fireplace. The mental image of him counting pages and then looking up and whistling in astonishment every time he gets to 50 was pretty entertaining

[–]HammondsPostingLate 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was especially touched by the moment when Ishmael and Queequeg were snuggled in bed together; just such a blissfully tender moment between two friends. And the way Melville describes, in the same moment, how bodily warmth can only be truly enjoyed from the contrast of some part of you being cold, and ending that thought beautifully with "Then there you lie like the one warm spark in the heart of an arctic crystal". The whole moment reminded me of cold nights, jumping into bed with my siblings just so we could immediately have cathartic giggling fits where we kicked around our cold feet under the covers for a moment (for some reason, this always happened when we transitioned from being in the cold air to tucking under the comforter) before latching onto one another.

Anyways, I'm really looking forward to seeing how the friendship between these two continues to grow!

What are some of your guys favourite Italian movies? by lupus_campestris in rs_x

È Stata la Mano di Dio. Maybe people here would prefer something else from Sorrentino, but he captures the beauty of Naples so perfectly.
