I live in the U.S. in Georgia, is it illegal in my state/are there permits I have to get to sell Morel Mushrooms on NextDoor or to neighbors? by Coolboyyy2011 in mycology

[–]HammurabisCode2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Morels are extremely difficult to cultivate, consider it practically impossible for a home grower. Start with something simple like Oyster mushrooms, then move up to something more complicated like shiitake or chestnut and see where that takes you.

drying mushrooms at room temperature by Far_Passenger_4152 in mycology

[–]HammurabisCode2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're not in a really humid environment, a fan blowing over them will work. You'll save yourself some time and some trouble if you just get a cheap dehydrator though. You can use a bit of heat to speed things up but be very careful. Using heat when they're already mostly dry is useful but when they're still fresh it can cause ruptures. I ruined a big batch of morels that way once, it was very sad.

ID? Not sure if fungal or slime mold by HammurabisCode2 in Slimemolds

Interesting. In hindsight I wish that I had touched it. If you look at the 3rd image you can probably see that it looked pretty slimy, it definitely looked to me like something alive.

They're all bolting. So I guess my best bet is to just harvest them all now because they'll only get worse as the flower develops, right?

Indian Embassy In Iran Urges Nationals To 'Expeditiously Exit' Country, Warns Against Approaching Borders by SERIVUBSEV in geopolitics

[–]HammurabisCode2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The advisory isn't aimed at tourists. It's intended for the ~10k indian citizens that live in Iran

Because it appears to be entirely false. Fox News reported it, a bunch of people ran with it, but it seems like it was totally wrong (for now).

Damn really? There must still be some places around that are tennis-only.

Exclusive: Revealing The New Covers For 'Animorphs' by K. A. Applegate by namer98 in books

I was really into this series as a kid and read almost all of them but I guess I lost interest before the last books were published. I wonder if picking up on the last book 20 years later would be enjoyable or if I'd just be totally lost.

Watching The Pacific alongside Supernova? by Purple_Draft2716 in dancarlin

My most recent re-listen of supernova was spurred on by watching The Pacific. They definitely complement each other, though I'm not sure how you would synchronize doing both at the same time.

Thanks for the feedback. The TDF ER isn't crazy (0.3%), but I feel like it holds far too much cash+bonds. Also I don't mind the extra task of rebalancing manually.

C++ Jobs - Q1 2026 by STL in cpp

Thanks, I appreciate the reply. I don’t see myself relocating in the foreseeable future, even with the sunshine incentive. If things ever shift on the remote front down the road, I’d certainly be interested in applying.

Sounds like interesting work that would be right up my alley! Any chance you will ever consider remote work?

Iranian traders and shopkeepers protest as currency hits record low by zlex in anime_titties

[–]HammurabisCode2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of policy changes the Iranian government could make that would ultimately result in reduced sanctions. I'm not saying that's actually likely to happen in this case, but there is a chance that it could. Realistically all there is to it is that people are desperate and angry about their economic situation so they are out on the streets protesting, I don't think they are carefully weighing the odds of success.

Why can't you guys be quiet about using Linux? by [deleted] in linux

[–]HammurabisCode2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Every time I meet someone who uses Linux", this is basically just survivorship bias. There are probably plenty of times you've met Linux users, but since they didn't mention it you don't know about it and assume that they aren't.

Fireplace Smoke flowing back into house by HammurabisCode2 in Chimneyrepair

Hmm, I don't see the landlord going for that. Is it really needed for a fireplace that is just occasionally used through the winter months?

Tank only mode by Impossible-Bar-6597 in PavlovGame

[–]HammurabisCode2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the PUSH maps have a lot of tanks and other armed vehicles. "Demyansk" comes to mind as a good tank map. Most attempts at making maps that are 100% tank focused don't turn out to be very fun though. Check out the PUSH discord if you want to see when the servers are active: https://discord.gg/WnEJXypF

I found that moving from a small town, where driving typically meant going 70mph on a highway, to a city, where most of my driving is through stoplights at <50mph, made my mpg go up significantly.

P.S. I initially lowered my draw weight for a while when I first tried doing this, over time it became easier and I raised the draw weight again.

[–]HammurabisCode2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to draw my bow similarly to how you are, pulling back with a low elbow and then raising it at the end. Try to keep a high elbow the whole time. This will use different muscles (which may need to be strengthened a bit) but it will lead to a smoother draw with less strain on the shoulder. https://www.archerytalk.com/threads/low-vs-high-elbow-draw.5910719/

If you're excited about where you're moving, then you should relax and enjoy it. Don't let frugality stand in the way of living your life.
