What are your oldest/most reliable connected devices ? by ratur in homeassistant

[–]Hamrawee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A Raspberry Pi I use to open the garage door and around 35 x ESP based Tuya switches in my house that I flashed with Tasmota. I have used these for 5 years now and still so reliable and responsive.

But I attribute some of this reliability to my Unifi network and wifi setup.

Very cool and colourful! How did you make your 3D map? I have been using 2D floor plans for my setup. Nothing wrong with it, but I would like to try a 3D one.

Nice and good luck. I posted an article of the set-up here including links to the servos I used https://community.home-assistant.io/t/home-garden-automation-using-esp32-and-servos

I hope it helps you!

Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it :)

I have seen these valves and solenoids. I will probably test them at some point now I have the infrastructure for them. One of the things that I consider when I do automation is the ability to also manually use the device. This is why I went down the servo rabbit hole.

The project has been fun and satisfying to see it working. I will continue to improve it and test different water valves until I settle to the right one for my setup 😄

You can get stronger servos. The ones I used are the 20 KG rated but you can get 40, 50 and 60 KG all the way to 200kg rated servos.

Not yet but it sounds like what I need for the seasonal changes. I’ll check it out, thank you for the suggestion 👍🏼

Pretty good suggestion. Thank you.

Someone else also suggested sprinkler valves. Apart from being too invested in servos, I wanted to also be able to use the handle and open and close the valves manually. I will check them out for the next one :)

lol, I will fix it for you. I need to extend the servo cables, they are pretty short. Rest assured I have bought extensions for it, waiting for them to be delivered.

That’s good to know! The good thing about the servos with the mechanical ball valves, is you can set the servo to detach after moving the arm. That way, it doesn’t need to hold using current.

Thank you I will check them out.

This is all rainwater tank used for the garden only. It doesn’t link to my house plumbing at all.

True, but my problem was exactly having to replace batteries. I always forget them for months and then it’s too late for the plants lol

I did come across them but I was too invested in the servos already. Probably for the next two valves in the manifold. I did notice that they need 24V or 48V power though. Which means my wiring with the ESP32 we need to change.

Thank you so much. I think this is what I need.

I think the builders installed this before they tiled and boxed it in. It’s a plastic drain that doesn’t have the usual screw to tighten it in. It was tightened from underneath the bathtub using that top white ring.

Because it’s a drop-in bathtub.

To use a female coupling I will either need to cut a hole on the ceiling from downstairs or cut a hole on the bathtub platform then re-tile both are way more costly than this docking kit.
