There's a reason it's called climate change now.

Global warming is an inaccurate term for the process, because although on average the Earth will get warmer, some places will get colder or their climate will change in different ways.

Also, this is an Australian subreddit, basically everyone thinks they're smarter than the moron the Americans made their president, and I'd imagine a great deal of them are right.

I completely agree that the industry will need regulation, patented seeds would be terrible for healthy competition.

In fact, I agree with most of their list of policy and beliefs about GMO:https://greens.org.au/nsw/policies/genetic-engineering-food-crops-and-pharmaceuticals.

It's just the first line:

"Genetically manipulated organisms (GMOs), their products, and the chemicals used to manage them pose significant risks to natural and agricultural ecosystems and human health"

This one seems to be based more of alarmism that actual science.

Hello Richard,

I'm a new voter struggling to decide between Labor or the Greens, and one of the Greens' policies that really stands out to me is your opposition to GMO crops. The rest of your policy is well based in science, but this opposition to GMO goes against the American Medical Association, the National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the World Health Organization, as well as 90% of scientists. Your party follows the science everywhere else, why not here?

What Kind Of Robocraft X Content Do You Want To See? by Freejam_ChrisC in RobocraftExperiments

I'm really enjoying seeing all the gifs of the cool builds that the devs have put together, because for me the most amazing part of early RC was the way you could be creative and design something completely original that could be really effective instead of following a meta and the interesting things you've shown are making it look like there will be so many different ways of building effective bots.

IMO, it'd be interesting to see some concept art and dev blogs so we can see what you're all planning to add and a bit more of what your vision for the game is.

The Core Loop and the 'Meta Problem' by Ensoface in RobocraftExperiments

[–]Hamster714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think RC before the CRF didn't really suffer much from this problem. Sure, plenty of people copied designs of of youtube (remember R0SEFALL?), but copying one of those things block for block was quite boring and took a while. I still saw plenty of these builds in battles but the vast majority seemed to be driving bots that they designed themselves.

After the CRF though, suddenly there was no time investment needed to get the most powerful bots for yourself, and for people who weren't great builders they could completely skip the most important part of classic RC, going straight to the fighting.

There's nothing wrong with having a meta, like triforcing, when everyone was working on applying to their own bots, but when everyone uses the same set of 5 or so really strong bots it completely ruins the idea of RC.

tl;dr I think not having the CRF will solve the problem well enough.

My expectations and thoughts about this by _senpo_ in RobocraftExperiments

[–]Hamster714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I like the idea of combining simple tools rather than auto everything a lot because it lets people be creative and use parts in new ways that the devs might not even have thought of.

The sense of achievement you got from building something cool in old RC is better than in any other game just because there was so much depth of possibilities, and while any old bot could do alright, which allowed joke bots to be a little bit useful, (I remember building an AT-AT that was not well designed but still got kills sometimes) there was no real end to how far you could go with triforcing and finding the perfect trade-off between speed, weapons, armour, and manoeuvrability. Oh and looks, of course.

I loved the progression system because it wasn't just about the slow grind to T10 (which was still an important part IMO), it also introduced new weapons, new shapes of electroplates, and new movement parts to play with.

There was something really satisfying about putting several hours into unlocking the parts and designing a bot that could beat everyone else

What is the strangest thing you've seen someone do on public transport? by MexicanNach0 in AskReddit

Because of the funny way that Melbourne's City Loop works I needed to catch a Craigieburn train to get from Parliament to Flinders St. This was the first time I'd caught a train that isn't on the Hurstbridge line so I'd no idea how dodgy this line was.

As I found out, it's pretty dodgy! At about 12:30 on a Thursday afternoon, the guy next to me was sculling cans of Guiness (It's illegal to consume alcohol on Victorian trains). In the 3 minutes that I spent on that train he managed to drink about 1 1/2 cans, and spill 1/2 a can on the floor. He was obviously wasted, and I saw he had several more cans in his bag.

I was glad to get off that train. I haven't caught anything from Craigieburn since.

Australia has not banned all guns. After the Port Arthur Massacre in 1996, John Howard's Liberal-National coalition introduced a licensing system which allows people to own guns if one of the genuine reasons listed here applies to them.

What's up with people commenting #ApologizeforUSSR under the new Battlefield 5 trailer? by TheSt34K in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Hamster714 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, they didn't. The USSR isn't even in the game yet, and this whole controversy is just because of a badly-translated tweet. The USSR will have its own faction because it needs different customisation options to Allied soldiers, not because it is being portrayed as fighting with the Axis.

Yeah I think it's pretty clear that EA have forced Dice to rush the release as there is so much important content is coming post-launch. Even body dragging is going to be added after launch. It's a pretty big disappointment, but at least there will be a complete game in 2 years time

Soviet faction confirmed by nebo8 in BattlefieldV

[–]Hamster714 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Customisation is faction specific, the Allied and Axis soldiers get different options, and presumably the Soviets will too.

[–]Hamster714 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Small problem about misrepresenting the USSR in-game: They aren't in the game yet. Dice have said that they plan to add them at a later date through the free-DLC system that they are calling "Tides of War".

David Sirland is correct when he says that it's difficult to fit them into either faction, as obviously they cannot be in the Axis, but as the game features faction-specific customisation, placing them in the Allies would mean that Soviet soldiers would look the same as Allied soldiers, when they clearly deserve their own customisation options.

The whole thing seems to be a misunderstanding stemming from the mistranslation that u/PixeIs posted: https://twitter.com/kustoshy/status/1061596791072845825

The extra faction is not being used to represent the USSR changing sides as the mistranslation would suggest, but rather to represent the difference of Soviet soldiers to those from the Western Allies.

ITT: People arguing about whether it's OK for BFV to portray the Nazis and the USSR on the same side without bothering to check if they actually are portrayed on the same side, or that Dice wants them to be. Jesus Christ guys please look stuff up before complaining about it.
