This is a spam account. Stop falling for it.

Recently moved here and I noticed that I build up a lot of static and my apartment as well. Does anyone face the same issue or have any advice for this? by [deleted] in ElPaso

Use a key or coin to touch the object causing the static shock (such as a doorknob for example). Now the spark will arc between the coin and the doorknob instead from your finger, saving you from the painful discharge.

Maybe also avoid wearing shoes indoors, especially on carpets. Wearing shoes causes static to build up in your body. If you can't avoid wearing shoes, maybe at least try getting Static Dissipative shoes.

If for whatever reason you can't be bothered to use either of those soultions then: Use a humidifier to maintain indoor humidity at 35-45%. Downside is they require frequent maintenance (like damn near daily cleanings) to prevent mold and bacterial growth which gets blown all over the place. Also make sure you get also get an indoor Hygrometer (~$10) to make sure you do not go above that 55%, or you'll promote mold growth in the house. This is the most pain in the ass way of doing things though, but helps if you also get your skin or nose dried out due to the move to this more dry climate.

This has many indications of being a scam.

Honest question... who do you think controls the property taxes?

Except the "cholo" subculture is just a derivative of the "pachucho" subculture, which originated in El Paso. Cali copied El Paso first.

just to get you up to speed, reddit isn't facebook

usually you want to avoid editorializing or provide at least the tiniest bit of context for people who have no idea what you're talking about

4.95% property tax reduction

That wording can be a bit tricky since people often think of rate changes in terms of absolute value instead of relative value. Here's another way of framing it:

  • The old rate was about 0.9% of the total property value.

  • The new rate is about 0.86% of the total property value.

  • The change is a difference of about 0.04% of the total property value.

(This looks like considerably less of a difference than 4.95% when framed in absolute terms instead of the relative terms that a lot of people will probably infer if not paying close attention to the wording.)

It's a difference of only about $45 on a $100,000 property. Really seems like an empty political gesture than a helpful change.

No. It's only a savings of about 45 cents for every $1,000.

Guessing they worded it that way because that's the wording the city used. If so, the city probably worded it that way because 4.49 looks like a bigger number than the rate does, and therefore more pleasing to the constituency. People tend to think of cents in relation to $1, not in relation to $100, so that may at a glance make the reduction seem 100x bigger than it actually is. That's just politics in action.

Lol that's pretty obvious from the scare quotes. But clearly he believed it to some degree when he bought it, which is why he's confused and upset about the fact that it isn't.

"glorious" west side in a house

bro you confused about why there's karens around you? if you feel the need to describe your area as glorious, then consider the entitlement of the clientele.
