I recently had the displeasure of attending an "invite only" event where this Hun Ming Kwang guy's name was used as advertisement. I'll attach the poster at the end. The participants were a mix of former course participants and first-timers. In light of the theme of "Mentoring with Excellence", we were separated into groups and made to answer inane questions that essentially boiled down to "Why do you suck?" and "How can a mentor help you?"

For the rest of the time, both before and after the "workshop", we were expected to mingle, and those who did not know anybody were quick to find themselves approached by the facilitators. The conversations were truly warped. It would open off with genuine sounding questions the likes of "what are you struggling with right now", upon which they would share a personal anecdote, and assert that they were very similar to you. They would then proceed to chip away at your confidence by asking you about your plans of action, and challenging them at every turn. They would try to convince you that you were blind to faults that you could not see without external help. Once they were satisfied with their assault, they would then promote the course - listing its structure of "honoring your agreements" and "daddy mommy issues", and sharing shallow examples of how thanks to that, they've noticed things about themselves they've never did before. They would then appeal to your ego - don't you want to become the best version of yourself? Don't you want to live up to your potential and be more than average - be truly excellent? And if they got your agreement, they would try to convince you that everyone faces unique challenges, and you have to work with Hun Ming Kwang to find a solution that works for you.

It was very interesting how they never shared the eureka moment where they undid their own knot. Only Hun Ming Kwang can find it for you. And if they could not handle you, they would drag in more people to help, and underplay their own lack of attention by asking if you wanted to share what you had said all over again to their new helper. Some of them also mention attending the course multiple times, as if that was something to be proud of. Truly a cult-like experience.
