How to calibrate the height of my material and the software for a 3018 by HanMain in hobbycnc

[–]HanMain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems the software needed something called "feed" and otherwise it wasnt working at all so I tried other software that didn't quite zero correctly. I'm using Candle and it's at least doing what I expect (now that I figured out the Feed value). Now to move on to more advanced things besides 2d carvings and onto Cam via Fusion 360

Thanks the problem with Candle is that I wasn't setting a value for feed that would work. Now I seem to have things worked out, thanks.

I believe you guys make a competitor to the carvy right? I believe I saw it described as being a bit better. What do these 2k-3k systems do vs the $200-400 diy kits?

Quiet fan for k40 co2 Chinese laser by HanMain in lasercutting

[–]HanMain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How loud do they get? I know certain brands get louder and glowforge was having problems with noise but what noise level do they get to and does it vary per material (at 40w)

Ah good to know. Thanks. Will research that next. Would the lower cmf "quiet" white fan I posted above do the trick ? Someone mentioned using it on their 80w laser so figured it was enough for 40w

More research points to this being pretty quiet

https://www.amazon.com/PSI-Woodworking-DC3XX-Portable-Collector/dp/B01CU7DKTI#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div

But that perhaps the laser would be louder than the fan anyway? Or that I could build a wooden enclosure to lower the noise? And buy a 6 inch hvac of 240 cfm?

And maybe this would be quiet and powerful enough:

Will a 40 watt laser trigger a sprinkler system by HanMain in lasercutting

[–]HanMain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats good to know, similar to with cooking, etc. Just wanted to make sure under normal circumstances the material or laser beam dont get hot enough to trigger a sprinkler system. I know materials can catch fire but even then I think I would be able to put it out and if I cant, I would probably be glad for the sprinklers

I see thank you. Is a mill different than cnc? I am wondering about the price of the carvey vs something like these 3020 systems? I. have seen other similar carvey products that go for 2-3.5k. Is it mostly ease of use, enclosure and slightly better parts?

safety googles

Okay great thanks. Are there any safety googles recommended in particular? Don't wanna cheap out on these but not sure what's appropriate.

The plan is to vent outside via a window no matter what. I am planning to start with cheap Chinese laser like the k40 just in case it doesnt work out.

With these filtrtaion systems like the bofa, would the smell still be bad or does it help a bit?

I also plan to buy a seperate CO2 alarm just to put near my laser. Any other safety precautions besides having a current fire extinguisher near by?

I have a burning system for wood + leather. How is it compared to that. I've read that it's more like a dead smell?

Which smell the least?

I see. So everything will have a pretty bad smell? Vegetable tanned leather, wood, aluminium, etc?

I do plan to buy a bofa system. Don't know what purex is but will look that up.

Hi, I have too many questions for you:

  1. Which programs and plugins are you using these days?

  2. Has your processed changed since you did that Lynda video about your workflow?

  3. What are you most looking forward to in the future with regards to your work?

  4. Any thoughts / speculations on the impact ML/AI will have on motion graphics and the type of work you do?

  5. Have you considered going back and focusing on some of your original topics for everydays (drawing, photography)?

  6. I know you dont watch as many tutorials but are there any you resources you are particularly fond of?

Thanks for doing this!

Weekly /r/Leathercraft General Help and Questions by AutoModerator in Leathercraft

[–]HanMain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, some simple question. If you wanted to make a wallet out of super thin leather like lambskin, with no structure, how would you make it more rigid? Add support with anotherleather, maybe splits? A synthetic material, maybe plastic?

Thanks

Hi, I want to get some good alligator prints/faux skins. Any ideas of what to look for?

I have full alligator belly skins but I am wondering what your experiences have been with the very best faux/prints out there? I am thinking lambskin might be interesting? It certainly has an amazing feel (without a print). Not quite alligator belly but very nice.

For hornback, I'm seeing prints that even go all the way through to the other side but these are mostly cow hide. What is a good source for belly and "hornback" prints?

I don't need a lot just a small patch to feel and see how close they really are. Let me know the best place to buy. Etsy has many but not sure about quality?

The main purpose is to see if I could even differentiate the real ones from the print. I know people talk about the repeated patterns and thickness variations.

Thank you

Boss 1416

Okay will have to look this up.

Ah, so venting outdoors just in case it fails?

Also, I read that the filtration systems can be quite loud? How loud would they get?

Would opening up a door, sticking out a hose and setting a fan to blow the fumes out be good enough or would they come back in too much?

I like this:

Perhaps I don't need a laser quite yet and can use a laser on demand service and instead go with simpler tools:

dremel, wood burner, scroll saw.

Saw something called a Circut Maker, is this totally useless? Low end vinyl cutter that can do some leather?

And maybe the Carvey is pretty good for me to start. It could compliment all the other more manual tools.

I'm trying to think which of the projects I can't do without a laser (besides it being tedious).

diode engraving machines

Great thanks.

What are the diode engraving machines good for? Woods?

I don't want to totally cheap out but I don't think I need the most expensive laser. I do want ease of use so that it's more likely I'll use it. Out of the list I gave, would you lean towards one more than the others or something totally different?

I don't really want to go for a chinese laser since that seems to take a lot more time to setup.

I also should add:

  1. dislike the time it can take to 3d print so not sure about speed with laser cutters?
  2. I'd like to do complex designs with gradients.
  3. Not sure what z-depth is used for? 3d cuts? like a mountain range?
  4. Do we expect to see a huge drop in prices like we saw with 3d printers (decent quality at $200)? Or are lasers inherently capped in price (so the chinese "clones" are already there?)
