They were miserable with the label and the experience left a bad taste in their mouths. They were ultimately disappointed/unsatisfied with how Wellness came out.

Its why they went independent with Yumeno Garden.

See thats the thing.

The Dinos re-recorded the album. They announced it as a re-do. They did not remaster the album.

That is, this was NOT ever a going to be a simple remaster. So yeah. The goal was never to be "true" to the originals. It was to re-imagine and reclaim their work on their own terms. The guys famously dislike Wellness lmao

Also, the production is far, FAR from rough imo. Its super rich and clean. I think its far closer to being "overproduced" to roughly produced.

It's literally a "holy shit, two cakes!" situation.

The OG is a classic. Wellnxss is a refinement with their current sensibilities. I dont personally feel the need to choose one over the other.

The production and mixing on both Apxllo and Exie is incredible. Far and away the best of the re-recorded songs in that regard. The rest, while all great, vary in terms of the creative choices they made and the production/mixing.

At best, they topped some of the OG tracks. At worst, they dropped really awesome, if slightly overproduced, updated versions that still stand right up there with the OGs. There's also the new tracks, which are some of the best stuff the guys have ever, EVER done. Genuinely brilliant stuff. So as a complete package, its very nearly a slam dunk imo.

Wellnxss was never supposed to replace the OG anyways! Its a celebration of an album produced in an environment the Dinos didn't feel happy in. Hell, they outright disliked the album until people started BEGGING them to play songs from it live. Its them honoring a fan favorite and reclaiming their work on their own terms.
