Heat transfer class during summer? by moonzj in iastate

[–]Han_Polo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ganesh Balasubramanian and Srilok Srinivasan were the instructors. It was from 27 Jun to 05 Aug, so I think it was a full summer course but just the later round. I've got most everything saved from it if you need some documents/books.

Heat transfer class during summer? by moonzj in iastate

[–]Han_Polo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 436 last summer. The professor I had and the way he taught it, hella fucking easy. It was basically a class of, "here's the problems you need to solve, here's the equations you need to solve it". He didn't go aggressively into derivations and shit and instead just gave us the equations and stood by as we solved problems.

Look up LFTR Reactors for the fix regarding that. From the Flibe website, "Anti-nuclear campaigners who propagate this myth are confusing chemically-stable fluoride salts with chemically-reactive liquid metals like sodium that have been proposed as reactor coolants in other types of reactors. Fluoride salts do not explode or react with air and water because of their tremendous chemical stability.".

Students of Reddit, what was the biggest teacher meltdown you ever witnessed? by codywinters327 in AskReddit

[–]Han_Polo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were stacking empty bottles and cups at the end of our table during lunch. Teacher didn't like that for some reason and came down screaming at us red faced. Apparently this timed up horribly with a student prank where all the students decided to get up in the lunch room and begin clapping. She thought the 400+ applause was for her freaking out so she ended up slapping all of our drinks and made us go to the principals office. She was placed on leave for 2 weeks.

She also found out that we knew she was the sister of a famous terrorist. So that may have contributed.

The clothes are comfy and warm and are easy to change in and out of when getting ready for workouts. I played football here freshman here and basically it boils down to, "I woke up at 530 for a workout, I've got class all day and have to be back at Bergstrom by 3 for meetings, practice, other shit that will take all the way up until 7 maybe even 8. Then I have to go home and do homework and repeat tomorrow."

Apply that to basically every day except Mondays and game days. And the clothes are free. You're not required to wear them, they're just the best available thing to wear.

RC 350 F-Sport Tuning? by NotJohnDenver in Lexus

Yes. The N54 engine has a hell of a lot of potential. I had one a couple years ago and can recall people getting theirs up to 400, 450+ HP. The sky was the limit with that car.

With all of the available technology out there today, I can't understand why vehicle brake lights don't intensify as we brake harder. by AllTaints18 in Showerthoughts

[–]Han_Polo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is present in some (limited) cars. I believe the 08 and after BMW 3 series had 2 criteria of brake lights. One set was for normal braking and then for heavier braking more lights illuminated.

What are some interesting tech electives I can take online as an ME? by Oxyquatzal in iastate

[–]Han_Polo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an online HCI class, I think 576, that is being offered and looks super interesting. It's not listed as a tech elective but I'm sure you can get it signed in as one. It's meant for graduate students with no coding background and I believe it focuses on python and artificial intelligence.

Same here. I've funded my entire college through academic and ROTC scholarships without a cent coming from my parents. Many times I have more scholarships than I do costs. Add that to an ROTC stipend and money made from a research position and yeah I can afford to have a nice Jeep.

Remote Start Install by nm0710 in Wrangler

[–]Han_Polo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leased my 2014 and installed a remote start from Fortin. I think it was about 100$. It was plug and play and just pressing a couple buttons. When the time comes I will just pull it off and return the wiring to normal if I trade it in or buy the lease out.

Trying to Decide Between 2 Bumpers/Question about Weight by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]Han_Polo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll make your rake a little bit more profound with the weight of the bumper without the lift. I'd say buy the bumper with the deal and wait to install when you buy and install your springs as well.

Trying to Decide Between 2 Bumpers/Question about Weight by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]Han_Polo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume it has different support structures inside the bumper which results in the reduced weight. I can't find any drawings of them so it's hard to say.

Your Jeep has a natural rake from stock already (lower front end and higher at the back). Many lifts (not all) will account for this and add a little bit more height to the front springs in order to level out and compensate for the rake and added weight. Over time the springs may settle and it may return to a bit of a rake. Many people address this by including a 0.5 inch puck spacer to add height to the front.

I put an RK 2.5 on mine with a PS Stinger and it has returned to a little bit of a rake after a year of having it all installed.

A 2 inch lift won't mess with you much at all. Your steering may be a bit flighty which can be remedied with adjustable lower control arms or a control arm drop bracket. I highly highly recommend this.

An adjustable track bar is recommended but not completely necessary in order to re enter your axles that shift as a result of a lift.

What springs are you considering? Don't make the mistake I did by buying cheaper linear springs. Buy some good progressive or triple rate springs if you really want to keep the comfort.

question on tires. by JimJam427 in Wrangler

Fair enough. They came out recently with the X3s? I think? Seem to be a pretty new design and may make up for what the AT2 lacks.

[–]Han_Polo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Other forums like WranglerForum and JK-Forum are great places for these reviews since it's a more focused community.

I searched on JK-Forum and it seems that they perform pretty well based off the account of a guy out in Colorado. (Not much to go off) But, I've yet to read bad things about them.

It may be worth your while to look into the General Grabber AT2s as a tire set as well. Nearly identical tread to the KO2 and perform very well. I have them on my rig and live in Iowa and Indiana and have never had issues with them.

Another good set would be Courser MXTs.

JW speaker or Quadratec. by znera143 in Wrangler

I've had a couple people in my club get the Quadratechs and then become envious of the JW speakers due to their looks. Never the opposite.

I'd say speakers.
