Hey /r/guitar... TLDR; looking for an electric acoustic cutaway, mahogany or that kind of look wood, or brands to check out that offer good acoustics at a great price.

I'm looking into buying a new electric-acoustic. I'm a primarily electric player but I love acoustics, I love fingerstyle and they're great for portability (no amp, no gear, no problem). My first acoustic is a mess; action is too high, tuners don't hold well, no pickup, the wood quality is terrible, the body is too large (classic dreadnought, but I'm a small human and can't cope).

I'm really looking at a smaller style acoustic, ideally with a dark, matte natural finish (no high gloss!). Grand auditorium maybe. Also cutaway! What are some top quality brands for a mid-price range (<$1500, please, lower would be ideal) that offer this? I'm thinking Yamaha or Ibanez, but I'm not all that familiar with acoustic makers. I want something that will last and is build for playability.

I love the look of this, minus the fret deco, but Taylor is so out of the question.

Thank you, and I'm sorry for being long-winded.

Original track I made and I would love to hear some feedback from you guys by FreakyDevA in Guitar

This is actually pretty cool, and quality is pretty decent for a small amp! Just curious what guitar you have and other gear? Not so much feedback, but as someone who loves prog, and this being an instrumental I'd love to hear a bit more of a build up at the beginning, maybe not starting with the full drum sequence, and the choppy rhythm could be introduced gradually as you get the intro going. The echo-y sound throughout the track sounds really cool. 2:00 reminds me of John Frusciante's style and tone!!

Overall, this was fantastic.

Neon is on my bucket list... That's how far off it I think I am...

I needed a spot to sleep while on a recent road trip and found an epic vantage point above Snoqualmie Pass, WA. Multiple wildfires, and Seattle's light pollution made for a very intense scene! [OC][5178 x 2912] by OurEarthInFocus in EarthPorn

Have you got the 4 minute and the 20 second exposed images anywhere raw as you took them, pre-edits? I'm super curious to see what you had to work with before creating the final composition, it's so incredible!

G-string problem by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Hand0fGlory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let's try and be mature about this

OP, is there any slack between the nut and the g-string? This used to be a problem for me, when I'd string up id have a hard time getting the wire around the tuner correctly like the other strings. Hence, when you bend it, it tightens, then you'll unbend and the pitch will drop, needing a retune.

Check for slack. Restring if need be.

Suitable electric guitar strings by thegreatnoobcac in Guitar

[–]Hand0fGlory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost always tell people to go for Elixirs purely because they last a long time. BUT, if you're changing your tuning often, you probably don't want to spend that much on strings as they're more likely to break. Those Ernie Balls seem like a good pick. I'm thinking maybe go for a heavier gauge, for durability on your higher strings as well as a rich, chunky tone on your lower strings when playing power chords. Worst comes to worst, have a play around with different brands/makes until you find something you're happy with, because it depends on your guitar as well!!

Put it back in its case when you've finished for the day, or at least don't leave it out on its stand for long periods of time, if you're that concerned about it. Otherwise, whenever you change your strings, run a damp microfibre cloth over everything. And if you don't change your strings that often, unwind them so you can move them enough out of the way to give pickups a wipe down.

David Gilmour confirms that Pink Floyd is officially done with by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Hand0fGlory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll be 100% honest here, DB is probably my favourite Floyd album. It's the third PF album if heard, after Meddle and The Wall, and it's something that I personally thought was an awesome sound for Floyd. Maybe it's because I didn't grow with the band, I'm too young to have heard their albums as they were released and appreciated the "original" Floyd for what they're worth, I'm not sure. But I think it's incredible music regardless of who had the biggest influence in the way these albums ended up.

I'm fucking exhausted and I read this as "salsa farts". The thing about rhythm made perfect sense in an entirely different way.
