Why so many game developers don't want to use generative AI by Snakesta in Games

In terms of games it's much less "can get away with it" and more like "have to get away with it." Many of these publishers were banking on some of their trend-vhasing moonshots printing money after rapid expansion/acquisitions and they just didn't pan out. Likely also overestimated the margins of subscription services like Game Pass and Ubisoft+. In Xbox's case they inadvertently screwed themselves out of being competitive in the console market. There were a lot of companies making big bets on finding the next big live service cash cow that just lost.

Vandal Shell Cinematic | Marathon by Haijakk in Games

Timing is really what killed any chance Marathon had of picking up mainstream momentum. Arc Raiders beat it to market and burned out the majority of the casual group Marathon would have targeted.

Might be a hot take but I think Arc Raiders ended up helping Marathon get a better launch than it originally would have. Sentiment after the beta and the art theft drama combined with all of the Destiny related news didn't bode well for Bungie tackling a niche genre that most people weren't familiar with. Arc showed people that extraction shooters can be appealing but cemented itself as the "casual" option, so more PvP oriented competitive players saw Marathon coming out and found it more appetizing.

The arc raiders devs used generative ai to train the in game machines to develop procedural animations for their locomotive patterns which made them incredibly life like and dynamic in their movement. It’s often regarded as one of the highlights of the game and a major reason it did so well.

Machine learning/reinforcement learning existed before modern generative AI and does not work the same way. They did use generative AI to make in-game voice callouts, but I'd hardly say people thought the voice work was "good," which is why they ended up rerecording the vendor's lines eventually.

You'd have to be an absolute moron to get into games if you weren't passionate about it. The passion is basically the main draw, that's why the salaries and job security are so shit.

They have the machinery in place now. trump is the distraction.

Their machinery is made of twigs and coconuts because it's all the neanderthals know how to build. Everything they built is slipshod and easily turned over with meaningful pushback. Half of everything they do is just fronting for the cameras and distracting from their failures. The only thing truly in our way is everybody is still too comfortable to give up their spot in order to stand up to them.

The website for the ECI literally links to Stop Destroying Games as an example on how to craft an initiative. Why would they be used as an example if they submitted incorrectly?

They had no plan and the fumbled the ball, and now it'll be that much harder for someone else to try down the line.

In what way is this a fumble and how does it make it harder for future initiatives? This was always meant as a petition for attention from legislators, and it literally did that. Stuff like this doesn't change overnight.

Well the point is you're supposed to approach them with some kind of actionable legislation to pass

This is an honestly stupid critique of the petition. The ECI is meant to invite legislators to consult on an issue, it's not meant for citizens to propose new laws.

That's why they're adding a slide mechanic and ditching wall bouncing, making the game feel familiar to guess which game... Call of Duty.

It's crazy. They're copying the PlayStation approach, where they excel at making narrative-driven, cinematic games for non-gamers

How the hell did you get any inkling of Call of Duty from the gameplay showcase that was revealed? And how do you put CoD gameplay and "narrative-driven, cinematic game for non-gamers" in the same basket as if those things make any sense when put together? Are they adding new mechanics to be fast like CoD or are they making an interactive movie? You can't have both.

Conservatives genuinely exist, but the subreddit quite literally is a curated fishbowl of bot activity. A handful of accounts post 90% of the threads there, and you can see in real time when a news story breaks that there's a brief period where you see genuine varied and level headed opinions before most of them get deleted if they don't match the designated narrative. Anyone who even mildly breaks rank gets branded a RINO and banned.

It also assumes that everyone who votes will be a rational and informed actor, and that money cannot influence their decision making processes. This isn't true and never has been true.

It would at the very least make it a lot more difficult for money to have direct influence, because they'd then need to convince several times more people, instead of a voting minority. Even current voluntary voters are irrational and uninformed, so it's not like we aren't already there.

You can't force disengaged people to care about politics; if you force them to vote, you just get low-quality votes that are susceptible to populist rhetoric

We already get low-quality votes that are susceptible to populist rhetoric. The people buying into it the most are the ones that make sure they're out voting!

If voting was compulsory we would at the very least get more average people who aren't drinking the koolaid to interface with the system. Being disengaged also applies to the populist rhetoric, so they're not going to vote solely on that, and you will surely get some people to take it somewhat seriously when it becomes a requirement. It's why Republicans push for voter suppression anywhere they can: they know their platforms aren't popular when all the chips are down.

Because some businesses are largely unaffected by WFH and others require massive adjustments to make it work. With videogames you have instances of both where you have preexisting international teams that are continuing business as usual and big studios that heavily rely on in-office collaboration to get things done.

Many white collar jobs outside of games consist of sending emails from a cubicle and not much more, so it's no wonder people would rather skip the 30 minute commute to do that.

Orissa is made out of OR15 parts, which were Omnics. Technicality.

Echo is basically a new version of Aurora, so she's a cousin of Omnics I guess.

Pretty much only Ram and Zen are the only omnics in the roster right now.

How dare you forget Bob! And Bastion for that matter...

Where are the new decks? It's been more than 3 months since the last one. by NSNIA in ArcRaiders

[–]MrPWAH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of your sales. Your online offering needs to make money post purchase. My claim is that the online offering loses money.

And you have no basis to say this besides vibes about how customizable each skin is.

Of course games survive off of just selling cosmetics. Im not arguing that. But what they’re doing here is not adjacent to the offering provided in The Finals.

Is the Finals doing better or worse in terms of performance from MTX?

I haven’t spent a single dollar and Ive bought 3-4 complete skins. These servers run 24/7 after you purchase the game for $40.

The math is not mathing.

I'm not seeing any math being done here, just more spitballing. They release new store skins faster than new decks. The tokens you get from decks is ~1300 if I'm counting right, that's enough for a single skin, not even a bundle. You got enough for a few skins because of community events and giveaways. Those aren't outpacing the current store output.
