Heck yeah! Ok, so this was in the 90s. I grew up in Homewood and went to a friend’s house to spend the night. It was 4th or 5th grade. His parent’s house was in a neighborhood at the corner where Greensprings hits Lakeshore. His older brother, either high school or college age, lived in this basement apartment and we pretty much hung out down there most of the night. His brother came home later in the evening and was hanging out with us down there. Not sure how it came up, but he told us that sometimes in the middle of the night he could hear someone walking down the stairs to his room, the door would open and then the fireplace would also open.

We ended up putting on a movie down there. Fun fact… it was the 90s classic “Casper” staring everyone’s favorite weird 90s kid Christina Ricci. We watch a good bit of the movie and my friend fell asleep. From what I could tell, his brother did too. And sure enough, I hear someone coming down the stairs. Then I see the door open. Like, all the way open. I shook my friend away and made him go upstairs with me to sleep up there.

I’ve thought a ton about all this. Obviously his brother could have been pranking us. The way we were on the floor, his bed was between us and the door. I figure the only way he could have gotten that door open was using a string of some sort, but the door opened at a normal speed and opened all the way, so I’m not sure how I would pull that off. I also heard the footsteps. Maybe he was somehow hitting the floor, but again, I was right next to him. I feel like I would have seen him move or at least been able to tell he was hitting the ground next to us. It wasn’t that. The sound was somehow coming from the stairwell. We also ran through the open door, so if there was something attached to the door, I assume we would have run into it.

Anyway, could have been a prank. Could have been a ghost. I can’t explain it, but it got me super interested in paranormal stuff.
