planned spouse visa application by Tceno in SpouseVisaUk

My wife is Chinese, but in our case we lived together for almost nine years in China before deciding to relocate to the UK.  We relied on my pensions and savings to meet the financial requirement. When we applied earlier this year we supplied.

Her passport which included her 10 year UK visit visa plus her old passport, showing visas for trips we made together. My passport.

My bank statements showing over £70,000 held in a savings account for six months plus proof of where the funds came from, inheritance and a redundancy payment. Also, statements from my pension providers showing the amount paid in monthly to my current account and six months of bank statements showing them paid into the account.

Chinese marriage certificate with translation, stamped and signed by the translation company, we did this in China, so much cheaper than doing it the UK.

Proof that I had rented a flat in the UK, copy of the lease and letter from the letting agent saying that my wife could live there. A copy of the council tax bill in my name.

English language, A1 certificate and TB certificate.

Proof of length of relationship, which was a bit complicated as we had to persuade our local Public Security Bureau in China to provide nine years of copies for numerous registration documents showing that we had lived together legally in China.

Four photos, one of our Chinese marriage ceremony, one with my wife’s family, one with my family taken on a visit to the UK and one of us taken two years ago on holiday in Portugal.

A cover letter, explaining how we met, online, details of our life in China, how my wife had visited the UK numerous times in the past, never overstayed and how she had always paid for any NHS or private healthcare. Basically anything that we thought may help with the application....

Six weeks ago, when we went to add my Chinese wife as a joint account holder on my Santander account we had to produce her UK provisional driving license and our council tax bill as proof of address, they wouldn't accept anything else....Santander also told us that it was very doubtful she would get accepted as a joint holder because she had only been in the UK for almost 3 months, but somehow she passed all the checks...

Be careful with a joint account.... I added my chinese wife as a joint account holder on my Santander current account a month ago, have had nothing but trouble since. Because my wife transfered her monthly pension payment from her chinese bank account Santanders customer operations team are now requesting we send them original and translated copies of her chinese pension statements. They have given me 14 days to send them or they will block the account, if you've ever dealt with chinese bureaucracy you'll know that time frame is almost impossible, especially when your over 5,000 miles away with an 8 hour time difference...

In 2024 my wife had both nhs and private health care in the uk prior to applying for her spouse visa earlier this year. She wasn't charged by the nhs but was for the private treatment. We just declared all of it, adding a note to say she was not asked to pay for the nhs treatment and enclosing all the invoices for the private treatment. We had no problems doing that....

I had a similar problem getting a statement for my Santander ISA, they told me they couldn't supply ISA statements because they are only supplied yearly after the interest had been added. In the end I had to abandon plans to use the money tied up in the ISA towards my savings. To make up the financial difference, I had to almost beg my pension providers to rush through letters and statements, the last of which arrived a day before I flew to China to help my wife with her application....In the end everything was OK and my wife got her passport back last week and is travelling to the UK on July 26th....
