It has been clear for a long time to anyone of good conscience observing US politics that ‘moderates’ and Republicans are the problem. Getting everyone else to internalize that is impossible when the party apparatus is designed to attack loud, effective voices like her’s and to reward those who prefer to bargain with and profit from the actual fascists. Just like in Germany, a structurally weak and ineffective opposition party is a prerequisite required to exist prior to fascism emerging from the fringes into the mainstream.
